Na, i doubt it, i only got 2 more years, and theres nothing planned in my area with all the isp's.
And plus, even if the telephone exhcange i'm on was upgraded, i still wouldn't be able to get it - i'm to far away from it, i'm right on the border of 2 exchanges - so the quality would be too poor.

T --- ADSL & Starter work fine for me. I turn my home network on and by the time Windows has loaded the Nokia has logged on. The access then is fast and although the odd large download takes 20-30 mins I have no complaints. The ihug starter has 10gigs of 'free' international data and I rarely exceed 1 gig. If I had jetstream I'm sure the faster connection would have me over the limit and costing plenty! david

I guess most here who have starter would like the faster options, however it comes down to cost . Starter has a higher data cap, that most users do not ever reach, for a reasonable cost (compared with having a second phone line for example) . I would be paranoid with a lower cap and faster download speed that I would incur extra costs, we have seen the horror stories on this forum!

The speed of web browsing, gaming, email downloads etc is fine for me with starter .

As mentioned, the odd large downloads may take a while, however as the connection is always on, I set these to be done when I am not at the PC, like overnight or while I'm at work . Downloads are roughly 1 meg a minute, that's fine for me . Most of the large (200 + mb) game patches, demos and so on are available from the Jetstream Games Realm FTP2 server, at full speed . If I need something from there it is pretty easy to log off Orcon and re-connect to Jetstreamgames .

The router is always connected - so I have net access as soon as either one of the home PCs are switched on .

214314 2004-02-10 22:20:00 Starter has likewise been fine for me, using an Alcatel router to a 10 port switch . All 4 PCs have anytime access to email and the web .

As a SOHO business I was able to get Starter, and its speed is fine .

I will upgrade to the new package next month I think, as 3 GB 256k speed is now $15 less than Starter .

I consistently hover around 1 - 1 . 3 GB per month in traffic total, with only a couple of hundred of that as International .

Is it any wonder when the Starter pack is not too bad at the data limits but sucks on speed and is affordable compared to the Jetstream on any plan which gives you little data limit to work with and costs like there is no tomorrow.

214317 2004-02-12 07:06:00 Ok well we've finally got it set up for the rest of the pc's on the lan. Had to buy a cheap $100 router (Model XH1151 (www.dse.co.nz)) from DSE that would actually dial up the woosh modem via PPPoE. My Dynalink RTA300 wouldn't work and supposedly supported PPPoE, but it was an ADSL router, not a normal router. They gotta have this WAN port on the back of it :|

I set it all up on the lan, not very difficult just plug the modem into the WAN port then plug the cat6 cables into the computers and router. Then just point the computers to the new gateway and DNS (the router) and they are set up.

When we first connected we had to reset the router and modem before it would connect. You end up connecting the modem to the net through the router interface. Then it was soooo slow it was incredible. I was thinking what the heck have I got myself into. Then after dinner I turned the router off and the modem off completely and rebooted them. Now its away like lightening!!

So if your interested in woosh its pretty good IMHO. The DSE router I bought is supported by woosh so you can share the connection between 4 different computers quite quickly too. Has everything you need for games etc, I can get direct connections through to my computer no problem. Woosh doesn't do any "port shaping" crap either ie, slowing down P2P, ftp and international gaming like some ISP's on jetstart.

I haven't tried it out for any FPS games yet as I'm waiting for my hard drive to get back from data recovery. I'd be interested to see what the pings like on Desert Combat.

But for now anyway, telecom is losing $100 a month :D and woosh is only getting $65. Not too bad after all.
