214078 2004-02-09 23:50:00 yeah I tend to like winrars' right click menu better than winzips - even though I have both installed :D

at times I do find it funny that most people didn't realise that xp has it's own unzipper!!

Laura imagine a suitcase of clothes = zip folder.

you can unzip the the bag and select what clothes you want and put them in a draw, or you can unzip the bag and put all the clothes in a draw.

winzip, winrar etc can do both and the and also repack ( ie compress ) your clothes back into the bag as well and in some cases do things like encrypt the zip file too.

214079 2004-02-10 00:16:00 Laura, i have been in this boat many times and a few just recently as well, i have at some stages nearly uninstalled winzip due to not likeing it and also not getting it to work, even with saying do the trial thingy.

i hate it to be honest, i do understand the basics of zip files, but do not usually have ease of use of them because of stupid winzip prog overides every thing and i have never succesfully got it to work yet...... so it probably wont last on this machine,
i also have XP and have been told i have a xp zip prog (cant recall name at this point) and have used this in the past no prob's but as winzip overides all options and then wont let me chose the correct option thats of no help to me either.

but after all that waffle yes i think a Zip FAQ would be a good idea, explaining what they are, what they do and progs that do it?
and maybe how we should operate this stupid progs......

sigh...... nothing is ever easy.
