214635 2004-02-11 08:53:00 I assume this is the same "flaw" mentioned in CYaBro's post ( "A patching we will go" ) made at 12.59p.m. today...?

Nice to get some more background on it.

Just think what everyone could do with that extra spare time they'd have if they didn't need to keep up with what Windows was doing....

But then, there might be no Press F1...

214636 2004-02-11 08:56:00 Oh dear, what a major gaffe!

Sorry, Linux users..

You'd still need somewhere to exchange ideas, even if those didn't relate to crashes & bugs, wouldn't you?

(Forgive me, please. In this case, I typed before I thort...)

214637 2004-02-11 09:00:00 Moral of the story-ditch internet exploder! The most secure version is for the Mac which
MS are going to pull. Talk about oxymorons. Thank goodness there are alternatives.

214638 2004-02-11 09:08:00 Man hackers could be sitting on a gold mine here. Why don't they just go after all the banks and transfer all the money to them . (The banks run windows NT/2000) PoWa (203)

214640 2004-02-11 09:56:00 To Quote:
the company that discovered the flaw, criticised Microsoft for taking more than six months to come up with a patch to fix the problem, particularly since the flaw allows an attacker multiple ways to break into a system and means they could do almost anything they wanted to it.

"We contacted Microsoft about these vulnerabilities 200 days ago, which is insane," he said. "Even the most secure Windows networks are going to be vulnerable to this flaw, which is very unique."

And this coming from the company saying not to use Linux or Solaris becuase it takes too long for fixes/patches to come out? I hardly think an average of 3 days max is a long time to wait compared to over 200 days!!

They said that the vulnerability was "unique".
What the heck does that mean? It could mean that its unique in that it only takes somebody with the right know-how 5 seconds to get in.. or is it unique in that it alerted them to other possible vulnerabilities... or is it unique in taking 200 days to fix!?!

Good on ya Bill, pleased to know you put customer service right up there with making truckloads and releasing buggy software ]:)

Chill.

214641 2004-02-11 10:15:00 Thanks stu140103 for providing the link.

Yes, I'm supposed to know how to do that by now. After all, Press F1 poeple have told me how...

But I was busy & I was tired when I posted. Put it in the Too-Hard basket. You did the info up front.

(Mind you, now that I look at it later, I wish I remember the bit about shrinking posts so that people could read them without a lot of scrolling...At what post did that bit go wrong?. This is now damned hard to read.)

214642 2004-02-11 10:23:00 Oops, Odin
Just had another look/check.
It was you from the start, wasn't it?

Maybe time to tell the rest of us how NOT to post so that it goes like this - i.e. Long way sideways to read the post.
