2004-02-15 03:45:00 | Using ME,Peter.Well,I've spent all day(Sunday) and have finished up with Norton's not able to run properly, even after uninstalling, deleting folders and cleaning out registry etc,so have installed AVG and Zonealarm! Just as well my wife has been away for the weekend!! | Neil McC (178) | |
2004-02-15 04:28:00 | norton is garbage in my opinion specially the latest versions they're far too 'weighty' on the system and can be horrendous to install/uninstall they can cause many problems............talkign from experience here | drcspy (146) | |
2004-02-15 04:36:00 | So I've found out this weekend, drcspy.Bit hard to change after using something for 3 years though! And I'm back to Zonealarm which the techs told me not to use.Mind that was 3 years ago too!Tried a few others but ZA seems the easiest to set up. | Neil McC (178) | |
2004-02-15 05:17:00 | well I'm a tech and I use ZA and AVG (and 'stinger' and 'housecall' for backups) ........all free and very good ...... | drcspy (146) | |
2004-02-15 05:43:00 | ZoneAlarm has a lot of inherent problems with forgetting it's settings, randomly blocking things that previously were open etc etc. If uninstalled incorrectly also, it will fudge your networking protocols, usually completely breaking internet access - dial-up, but no traffic for anything. Of course the other problem is people that have no idea what they are doing that install ZoneAlarm, which is really common. "I can't get mail", but they are clicking on on the ZoneAlarm prompt for access. My standard is 'Do you know why ZoneAlarm is on your machine?' if they don't know, they shouldn't have it.

2004-02-15 16:41:00 | Download your driver to desktop. Double click on it. It will overwrite your old ones. Reboot and you are back in business. No need to remove old drivers first. That went away with DOS. Jack

2004-02-15 18:53:00 | Only problem I now have since last night and it's happened again just now,the cursor disappeared in a block of white, and last night things like the sidebars were different colours, like pink and green. So now what's causing that,AVG or Zonealarm? Some games go a lot better with the new video driver, another one refuses to start!Luckily one I'm not fussed on,so it's gone. Why do I fiddle so much!!!!!!! | Neil McC (178) | |
2004-02-15 23:11:00 | i doubt either avg or za is causing that but you never know.......... ;-) there is a known problem with installing some nvidia drivers over the top of old ones. there are a few cleaning programs which make sure all leftovers are unistalled so you can do a clean install. seeing as you where having trouble with nortons i suspect you have other troubles.
