| 214913 | 2004-02-12 18:51:00 | Hi all, A funny thing keeps happening whenever I install Adobe Acrobat 6 on Windows XP. Everytime I install it, it also wants to install MSN Messenger 5 (Windows installer starts automatically)and will not work unless I ok the Messenger Install!! I run MSN Messenger 6 perfectly without any hitches and it wants to install MSN 5 alongside it. Should I go back to Acrobat 5? I would love to keep my Messenger 6 as I use it to make phone calls. Thanks |

| 214915 | 2004-02-12 23:50:00 | Thanks for the reply. I downloaded it from Adobe and tried to install it. I got rid of it and used the PC World CD and the same thing happens. Wonder why? | draftycloud (2278) | ||
| 214916 | 2004-02-14 04:20:00 | I did a little research and found this: The reason you're seeing this is because Adobe Acrobat uses the Windows Installer. When an application that was installed using the Windows Installer is run, the Windows Installer will 'check' the applications presently installed -- if it finds something "wrong", it reinstalls it, in this case, Windows Messenger 5. To stop this you can use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. First, download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility: download.microsoft.com Run and install the program after you've downloaded it. After the setup is complete, click Start, then Programs (All Programs if you're using XP), then Windows Install Clean Up. Click Windows Messenger 5.0 and then click 'Remove'. Click 'OK' to the warning message that comes up. Then this should no longer happen. I don't know if this will work or not, but it is probably worth a try. |
