214978 2004-02-13 00:31:00 Thanks Parry, that isn't one that I have but looks interesting.

> What would be nice though is perhaps a category and a brief description based on whatever you can copy and paste. Just seeing a product name doesnt always make you know what it does.

I agree - having a descriptoin is essential if your a download addict like me and cant remember what half the stuff is for six months later. :D

214981 2004-02-13 01:45:00 It's simply a line by line listing of the contents of the CD which we'll eventually clean up into a index of the content sof each CD and then put on the CD and online, probably in plain text/HTMl and/or an Excel file. Biggles (121)
214982 2004-02-13 01:52:00 so you mean like if the cd has msn messenger.exe and readme.txt and addon.exe and image01.jpg and image2.jpg and msn.jpg

then i just write

msnmessenger.exe
readme.txt
addon.exe
image01.jpg
image2.jpeg
msn.jpg

in a email and send it off to you?

but for this i'd be sending you the actual contents of every folder etc thats on pcworld cd of a specific month?

214983 2004-02-13 02:08:00 I'll do August 2003 and I'll take a PCW t-shirt size XL :p

So you want us to go through the cd itself and look whats on it. Or go by the cd-guide that gets printed in the front of the magazine??

That's not what I would want to see if I were Bruce. ;-)

Go to the INDEX.HTM in each folder, open it in your browser and type out/copy the list displayed on each page. For example:

50 fixes for PC Annoyances:
ZoneAlarm 3.7.202
Startup Control Panel v2.8
PrintFolder v1.2
WinRescue
WinPatrol v6.0
Nero InfoTool v2.00

WEB BROWSERS:
Internet Explorer 6.0 with Service Pack 1
Netscape 7.1 Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/Linux
Mozilla 1.4 Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/Linux
Opera 7.2 Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP

Get the drift? Put you off yet? :D

Just make sure you don't miss any of the folders/pages. ;-)

214985 2004-02-13 02:19:00 Yup - that's what we're looking for. Biggles (121)
214986 2004-02-13 02:25:00 Except that what Bruce needs is . . . (example only)

ZoneAlarm; 3 . 7 . 202; April 2006

product; version; issue

Note the semicolon separators .

or, if there's no version . . .

WinRescue;; April2006

note the 2 semicolons to show empty entry .

Can nobody read? :_|

214987 2004-02-13 03:46:00 lol

I'll do JUNE 2001

plus, i'll happily do more if you need the extra help.

A few q's - do you want any sort of description? even like a brief comment such as "Firewall" , "mp3 player" etc etc

and what do we do about things such as images (like space pics) - just leave them out?

Or what about patchs and the sort?
