| 215208 | 2004-02-13 08:45:00 | I got my hands on Mandrake 9.2 and I want to multiboot it with Dose XP Pro; but Im completely new to installing OS(never installed OS before). Anywayz I booted Mandrake and went through the wizard. All went well but when I got to the part where It ask you to check the check boxes of what you want(e.g support for 3rd party linux software, configuring linux files and multimedia files); It says I only got 400 or so mb availiable to install linux, so I unchecked some checkboxes to loose some weight, but I couldn't loose anougth MBS with out unchecking all the check boxes. So I exit setup and now Im here. I gave Mandrake around 4 gigs for the partition from C drive. Why does it say I only got 400mb? Thanks in advance:) James Busby |

| 215209 | 2004-02-13 10:30:00 | Have you let Mandrake delete the Fat32/NTFS partitions that you want it to use, and place Ext2/3 partitions in its place? Or is that 400MB after you've installed the apps? (You must have done an "Everything install", most are around 1.2 - 1.7 gigs.... Hope this helps Chill. |

| 215210 | 2004-02-13 11:14:00 | I found the easiest way to install linux with dual booting, was to use partition magic to move windows along a bit on the hard drive so you can install the boot loader at the beginning of the drive. I used partition magic 7, went thru the wizard which asks all the right questions. After it's done install Mandrake & use Grub as the bootloader. When you boot up the system you get 10 seconds to decide which OS to boot. Hope it helps Phil |

| 215211 | 2004-02-13 21:03:00 | Oops! I just realised I only gave just over 1 gig of space from C drive for Linux
.. I had 4 gigs left in C drive but the Mandrake installation wizard only let me take a gig? sal.neoburn.net >I found the easiest way to install linux with dual booting, was to use partition >magic to move windows along a bit on the hard drive so you can install the boot >loader at the beginning of the drive. | 215212 | 2004-02-13 22:43:00 | Okay then: Scrap those Linux partitions Apply the changes, then proceed to shrink the C: partition down to as small as you can bear it Then just start the installer and let Mandrake partition using "Unpartitioned Space". A Boot Loader is simply a list of Operating Systems on your PC, and you choose one (Or it usually defaults to one after 10 seconds) from the list. Grub stands for Grand Unified Boot Loader, its the now preferred Boot Loader for many OS's. Chill. |

You will need to either use partition magic or defrag the drive first (preferably in safe mode). |

| 215214 | 2004-02-14 05:24:00 | I scrapped the linux partitions(using cd). But it still won't allow me to resize the windows partition over 1gb. So I tried to resize the windows partition using partition magic 7 pro but when I apply changes this error occurs sal.neoburn.net I also Did scandisk and defrag in safemode Whats wrong now? |

| 215215 | 2004-02-14 06:08:00 | I see by one of the replies that you have quite a few partitions already. When I installed Mandrake I originally had the windows drive as one NTFS partition. I scanned the disc, then installed partition magic, emptied all the temp files ect, defragged, then ran partition magic. I gave Linux 15 gig when going through the PM wizard, let PM do it's work, then re-booted with the Mandrake CD & let the Mandrake installation routine automatically format & partition the 15 gig. Sorry I can't help with the errors as I didn't get any so didn't have to look into it. To use GRUB, just select it when going through the configuration process near the end of the installation.
