| 1355809 | 2013-10-12 05:34:00 | 1) Yes its clean, no dust on it etc 2) it doesn't display under my computer, if i click on the cd drive icon it pops the drive open and tells me to insert a disk (even though the disk is already in there), and no other programs can see the disk |

Sometimes they look clean but aren't. I normally clean CD's/DVD's with isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth or tissues, or breath on them and clean with tissues. Could also be the Optical drive causing a problem. DO you have another you can plug in just to see ? |

| 1355811 | 2013-10-12 19:25:00 | Don't you need to download something from Microsoft to allow CDs' to play. I thought WIN8 was distributed without programs that allowed CDs' or DVDs' to play without the addon. | Bryan (147) | ||

You do need W8 pro and pay extra for Windows Media Center if you wish to use that program, |

| 1355814 | 2013-10-12 21:31:00 | windows.microsoft.com Only needed for DVDs though; you may have a defective disc, hold it up with a bright light behind it, if you can see holes in the disc, you have disc rot (the metal layer the data is encoded on has corroded), cant be fixed. en.wikipedia.org www.google.co.nz |

I thought WIN8 was distributed without programs that allowed CDs' or DVDs' to play without the addon. W8 will play CD's perfectly fine. You have to install a different player of some description if you want to play DVD's or Blu-Ray. Its all to do with licencing. There are several about, some are paid software some are not. I use freesmith free-video-player (www.freesmith.com) Works nicely on DVD's and Bluray as advertised. Bets part its FREE :D One paid piece of software that works great as well is Aurora Blu-ray Media Player (www.bluray-player-software.com) It was a free one form giveawayoftheday, worked great till I updated it :( Now its converted back to the trail which plays a watermark on DVD or Blu-ray playback. But plays avi's or mkv and other formats without the watermark. There is also VLC player, but last time I tried it didn't like Blu-ray to much |
