| 1335005 | 2013-04-01 21:25:00 | Hope you're all going to be happy with a hike in power prices so that the energy companies look more attractive to potential buyers. They sell the assets and we the public are going to be forced to pay even more. Story HERE (www.stuff.co.nz) |

| 1335009 | 2013-04-02 01:47:00 | Hope you're all going to be happy with a hike in power prices so that the energy companies look more attractive to potential buyers. They sell the assets and we the public are going to be forced to pay even more. Story HERE (www.stuff.co.nz) Yes its an absolute outrage. The Power Stations have paid for themselves many times over and in the majority of cases the fuel is free. (Hydro & Geothermal) But still these incompetent fools cant produce electricity at a reasonable price. Compare our prices to our nearest neighbour Australia and explain to me how they can dig a monstrous hole to remove coal, transport the coal for thousands of kms, crush the stuff to the consistency of talcum powder so it will burn cleanly, and provide tens of thousands on kms of transmission lines, all at about 2/3rds the price per unit of ours. Mind you, we go broke in a big way just trying to mine the coal dont we. What would make me laugh is if Mum & Dad Investor decided they werent going to buy what they already owned, and the Big Boys decided our Power Companies were a dodgy investment and Tiwai Point gave Meridian the big two fingered salute. That would leave the Government really red faced because they are relying on the funds from the sales to pay the interest on the loans they have raised. Even better, they were unable to settle the generous Treaty Claims they have undertaken. :D Still, I guess at the end of the day weve got Cyprus and Greece to turn to for advice on matters monetary. :banana |

With these sorts of minds, I can't see that we have a problem.:illogical |

| 1335012 | 2013-04-02 04:20:00 | I always kinda wanted to generate my own power, if prices keep raising it may get more economical and I just might do it one day. Lighting is easy, it's hot water, cooking, and heating that's the killer when trying to go off the grid. I've never understood selling off profit making organisations to raise money, makes no sense to me. Get a short term boost to your finances at the expense of some of your income... Look at Telecom, prior to being sold off the state owned Telco arm of the then Post office spent Billions installing a brand new digital telephone network (which we are still using 20+ yrs later), was probably well over staffed and inefficient, and still posted a profit of several hundred million during the worst years of heavy re-investment. In the years since it sold even if it had performed half as well as it did privately it would have earned it's sale price back several times over. |
