The general concensus with Orcon is, if you don't have a problem then you're sweet. If you get an issue... you might as well jump off a cliff. |

| 1334118 | 2013-03-26 00:32:00 | Use it at home never had a problem. I've had mine since it came on the market, and I've never had a problem, either. Snip < The general consensus with Orcon is, if you don't have a problem then you're sweet. If you get an issue... you might as well jump off a cliff. > Snip Unfortunately too true. But still, Orcon's marginally better than most ISPs. But the issue seems to be with their "help" desk. Credit where it's due. I was having issues with my broadband connection slowing. The Orcon tech guys got on to and made some cabinet adjustments, speeding the connection up by about 5 times. So overall, I can't complain. |

| 1334119 | 2013-03-26 01:17:00 | My family are on it. Orcon keep doing firmware upgrades in the background on them breaking more things. Stupid bloody thing also fails almost every night while my brother is gaming (It's funny coz my wife and I are at our place, and we can watch him in the game suddenly just stop moving, and he stops talking on TeamSpeak ... nek minnit "*** has disconnected"). I'm not a fan of the routers in any way, shape, or form. The theory behind them is bloody fantastic, but the execution is so piss-poor, it's a real shame. As mentioned, when it works, it works, though their speeds have taken a dive coz of their unlimited plan offering of late. However, when it doesn't work, their Helpdesk since being outsourced overseas is bloody awful! |

| 1334121 | 2013-03-26 02:49:00 | Orcon as an ISP - Ok, although due to their unlimited plan, the "normal" speeds have taken a dive. I havn't noticed it on our connection however the *might* be because we're on fibre. I don't know. Other than that, performance is good. (latency, uptime etc etc are all "normal") Orcon Help desk - A joke. Genius Router - Hit and miss, it works ok for home users (in the most basic sense) but if you happen to use it other than browsing web pages, you're in for an unpredictable time. I haven't yet thrashed it, so no issues.... so far, touch wood!! To circumvent the genius issue you can use one of chill's recommenced setups (Such as the draytech/TP-Link combo) and then to make it messy have the genius plugged in on the side for VoIP support. Unfortunately you can't get rid of the genius if you want VoIP just yet since orcon have customised and internalised their shiety SIP trunking system so that it won't work without going through the genius. As far as getting VoIP working without a genius, I managed to get my phone to authenticate and make outbound calls, but the line was heavily distorted. Need to tweak some settings/understand the system better to work it out. |

Must be the Genius if you want to use their SIP service. |
