1334135 2013-03-27 01:17:00 ^^ there are a *lot* of routers are, but that doesn't specifically mean that the people writing the firmware are any good at it.

They're modified and rebadged versions of the iiNet BoB router. www.iinet.net.au

1334136 2013-03-27 02:09:00 Okey doke I have just change our existing orcon plan to the Genius one (with the addition of a fixed IP), How do i attach two phones to the genius unit, I got the cheaper one that doesn't include a handset, is it as simple as using a two way splitter? Morgenmuffel (187)
1334137 2013-03-27 02:42:00 Pretty much, yup ,just grab a splitter and run a long phone cable :) Chilling_Silence (9)
1334138 2013-03-27 03:19:00 Is the Genius always problematic, seems ridiculous to let them loose on public if so? Cicero (40)
1334139 2013-03-27 03:23:00 They're cheap, that's one of the main reasons Orcon went for them (That, and the ability to remotely manage them). Same for Telecom and the Thomson routers. Those Thomson TG585's aren't $200 routers, they buy them for < $30 each... And it shows! Chilling_Silence (9)
1334140 2013-03-27 07:26:00 Save a lot of grief and use 2talk VoiP. A local firm, 100% reliable. Use a simple cheap modem plugged into your standard router. Costs $6.90 a month for a local number (free calls), 3.5 to 7cts a minute to all other destinations. I have used it for 2 years now and never had a problem. My ISP is Hosting Direct, naked broadband. Very seldom have a problem and they have a fast help desk. mzee (3324)
1334141 2013-03-27 20:29:00 A newbie question.
What is the issue with Orcon re: to calling? We don't make much calls at all, pretty much just international calls which we use those cheap calling cards .... mmm - the 2talk monthly fees for a local number.

The Orcon Genius 30/10 speed is $75 for 30GB, $89 for 60GB I think it is and $99 for unlimited usage with a fair use policy in place. Telecom as annouced by the media is to offer a $95 for 50GB which is more than enough for us and has a copper line that could be in place of the 2talk monthly fee right? And there's no need to pay someone to do the ATAs.

That's $10 + GST right? Under their personal plans without any add ons.

1334143 2013-03-28 01:29:00 What was the question nomad?

Is the phone issue with Orcon Genius siginificant?

What do you think about Telecom's new fiber offer now? Similar price and there is no need to use a company like 2talk and pay again for a local number. We're looking at getting fiber in May when our TC contract ends. Our place can get ADSL2+, VDSL and UFB.
