1334125 2013-03-26 05:13:00 If chill starts an ISP I have absolutely no doubt (with the right money) he'd fly through the ranks. The Error Guy (14052)

Keep us posted!

And every best wish.

Nationwide, but don't expect me to come visiting your place to install something in-person... :p

1334128 2013-03-26 08:55:00 Dude you start an ISP I will eat the early disconnection fee to join you. DeSade (984)
1334129 2013-03-26 11:10:00 Recomended Orcon to a few people, and fully intended to switch myself, but before I could switch they went to wogaphone help services and so I stayed with Xnet . Both Xnet and Orcon have been given flagellations with nettles by Chill who knows heaps about this stuff than I ever will, but his God has been busy in Chch explaining why his houses on sand went phut and some isp customers did not tealise they were in the legions of the dammed so were sacriligeously happy . Of the 6 customers I sent to Orcon 2 have had hardware problems . Both were solved by replacement, free of cost, promptly . My own procrastinatons meant I was still with Xnet aftet Orcon went weird on the help sahib service . So, I got a new fangled metric modem and stayed with Xnet .
This is where the fan met the leftovers; for reasons unknown my metric modem rebooted many times in quick succesion causing it to have a memory like a politician (or a retarded goldfish) so all my settings were belong to elsewhere . A quick call via 2Degrees (Ooops . . Another Chill 'must avoid' ;) ) and I was back to having Xnet deliver 18 . 5 to 19 . 5 MBs downwith 1 . 06 upload by Speedtest, and regular 16MBs transfer speeds acheived for bogger downloads . (OK Chill, I don't ignore eveything you say . I got them to discombobulate intetleaving - this doubled download speeds from ye olde modem and it's settings, and boosted upload from 760KBs to 1 . 06MBs . Many thanks . ) Note . Although Telescam were no doubt involved in the process a couple of times ( when it took more than 5 seconds to make a change: maybe 10~30 hrs) it never at any stage involved being told my call was important, please hold; or arranging meals while holding, or getting bulk tranquilisers flown in: the teletubbies were notably handled by proxy ~ ~ a service beyond price to someone with such delicate sensibilities as myself who has been dealt to by xtra under whatever aka or alias they have adopted for the time being .

The fact that it is cheaper than telecom should not sway you, nor should the fact that it is better; however the glaringly obvious advantages of NEVER having to speak or otherwise relate to telecon are absolutely priceless . Simple choice - want to buy your own modem? Go Xnet .
Want the isp to buy it? Go Orcon (fluent Hindi may be an advantage if you need help) . Want service like a reversing porcelain chair and amazingly high prices? Xtra have you covered (or soon will have) .

Sent from my phone because I am at a residence that is not only close to a railway line, they are with Telecom/Xtra/Yahoo and the web is pwned at great expense .

Even worse at SWMBO: Telescum via Apple :( )

1334133 2013-03-26 21:02:00 Can't say I've used Xnet any time recently, so couldn't comment. Getting 20mbps from ADSL2+, you must literally be sitting on top of the Cabinet?! Chilling_Silence (9)
1334134 2013-03-27 01:14:00 Orcon Genius modem is actually

* made in China (no surprise there)

* using "BusyBox"

http://www.busybox.net/

Orcon helpdesk

* outsourced to the Philippines

I turned off the phone (VOIP) feature, and it's been more reliable. However I did get into a nightmare situation where I was down for 22 days beginning 2013.
