1356181 2013-10-16 20:43:00 Major Update For Avast Users...sure is different! ruup (1827)
1356182 2013-10-16 21:51:00 I upgraded on someone's laptop, took it off again. It made it crawl bigtime. But it is a cruddy Centino running Vista w/ 1GB so I kind of expected that ;)
Can't be any more sluggish than AVG 2013 they were running. As an aside, AVG 2014 is out.... and it still sucks :yuck:

Thats starting to limit the choice of FREE AV for older/slower PC's then
Avira : bombards you with ads & pop ups, wont scan emails
AVG : bloatware
Avast : see above
MSSE : not really good enough any more, doesnt scan emails

Has anyone tried the 'new' Avast with a Custom install & only tick AV & Email scanning ?? Would that run better/faster on old PC's ?

1356185 2013-10-16 22:29:00 I wouldnt put any AV programs on something like a netbook either. Tried MSSE here made it slow as. So at the mo it's got nothing on it. But, it's not always online either. So, I'm not too worried about it. Speedy Gonzales (78)
1356186 2013-10-16 22:34:00 Avast users should change the update settings from Auto to Manual to avoid
it checking definitions status several times a day which is a pain in the arse.
I check manually twice a week. Switching to manual will put a caution mark
on the taskbar icon which can be safely ignored.

1356187 2013-10-18 08:17:00 AVG 2014 is out.... and it still sucks :yuck: Thats the understatement of the year. Didn't think they could make it any worse than it was -- By god I was wrong, its the biggest heap of rubbish out.

Maybe they should all it a Virus / Malware and stop insulting real antivirus software.

Got a persons PC here, The poor PC, its completely riddled with infections as well. AVG 2014 has brought it to its knees and says the system is clean. W7 i3, 4GB memory and OH MY GOD its slow. Trying to remove it, so far its taken close to 45 minutes and its about half way through the removal process :groan:

What prog are you using to clean it ?

1356189 2013-10-18 18:40:00 AVG's removal tool may remove it. If you cant remove it in normal windows, booting into safe mode, and running the removal tool may or should remove it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1356190 2013-10-18 19:38:00 Hi, Speedy. Just wondered what Wanui was using to clean up the pc he mentioned in post 7
which he says was riddled with infections. I have many tools at my disposal for such a case
but he may have better and I could learn from him.
