| 1477733 | 2021-06-10 10:53:00 | It seems as though anything that is a little bit unusual is called a "game changer" these days. It's the in way to describe something that is new and uncommon. It's starting to become a cliché. You would think that they would notice that it's becoming overused and think of something else to say. So every so often someone comes up with another saying and before too long it becomes a well worn cliché. Is it because all these people want to keep up with the latest? Whatever the reason it seems as though it is a "game changer.":waughh: |

"That's a nonsense " instead of that's nonsense. and lastly "at this point in time " rather than "now" or "currently" It seems that as soon as one media person says it the others follow suit |

| 1477738 | 2021-06-15 04:02:00 | Worst of all - "contro - versy" instead of "con-troversy" I quite agree . Unfortunately it's the Yank influence . That's how they pronounce it and - let's face it - they speak a form of English that is all their own . Thankfully the older generation don't copy them too much but the younger generation listen to them all the time watching Yank TV shows and films . I know a young girl who watches a lot of Yank TV online and, because of that, speaks with a Yank accent! What can you do? And it's the same with Neil's examples . The Yanks have no idea and just do not speak the Queen's English which is closer to Kiwi Speak . They just can't think of any other way to describe a fantastic happening than "awesome . " The other one I hate is "fake . " There are many other words you can use . For example, they talk about "fake money" when it really should be "counterfeit . " They substitute all the lovely different words for "imitation" and use "fake" for them all . Unfortunately, the lovely Kiwi English that we were all brought up with, is very slowly but surely being eroded by the Yanks . So all we can do is correct the people who we hear speaking that way and try to preserve our very own Kiwi Speak . :groan: |
