1472947 2020-11-12 22:03:00 Got an old HP Slimline PC with badly corrupted Windows.

Trying to set but it asks for Setup password which is not available or forgotten,

How to reset it?

1472948 2020-11-12 23:17:00 What version of Windows? Bryan (147)
1472949 2020-11-12 23:24:00 Win7

HP's recovery won't work, asking for setup password.

Need password to get into BIOS setup, too.

I removed the CMOS batter, hoping it will reset, but NO....

1472950 2020-11-13 00:06:00 Windows 7 for the OS is generally easy :)

Two ways - Either by Command prompt in safe mode www.top-password.com

OR a loty easier way -- Download Lazesoft Recover My Password www.lazesoft.com make the bootable media, boot from it, select the account and simply remove it.

There's other software that's better but they are not free.

BIOS -- Thats another matter, how long did you leave out he Battery ? Assume the mains power was off / Out as well ?

1472951 2020-11-13 00:26:00 BIOS...

Took out the battery for about 3 min. Power cord was pulled out, too. After the battery was reinserted, the system date is gone. but still need Password to to enter BIOS. HP Recovery too, needs password.

1472952 2020-11-13 01:05:00 Not long enough -- HP recommend 20-30 minutes. wainuitech (129)
1472953 2020-11-13 01:10:00 Trying it now... bk T (215)
1472954 2020-11-13 01:12:00 Just took it out ... will see ... after 30 min or more... bk T (215)
1472955 2020-11-13 02:23:00 Left it there for more than an hour, inserted the battery back, no change. Still needs password....

Maybe there's some other tricks to reset the password...

Anyway, managed to do a fresh reinstall of Windows....

1472956 2020-11-13 07:16:00 Since there's no actual Model Number given this a generic operation for all small Form Factor Desktops. - Try a jumper Reset.
