| 1473721 | 2020-12-18 03:08:00 | All being said and not yet done, as piroska stated, I may as well upgrade that which I have. In short I see that as this: buy a 3400G APU and use it in current rig running the 2400G APU Asus Prime B450M-A, AMD Ryzen 5 2400G, 16GB DDR4 2933MHz GSkill Flare X (running at 2400 MHz) Samsung Evo 860 SSD 500GB, Corsair HX750W PSU, W10 Pro x64 v20H2 Build 19042.685 Transfer the 2400G to the other rig I just completed and comprises Gigabyte GA AB350M-D3H, Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB Crucial 3200MHz DDR4, AMD Radeon Sapphire Nitro RX580 GPU, Coolermaster RS 550 PCAR E3 PSU, Kingston A2000 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD, W10 Pro x64 v20H2 Build 19042.685. Changing the 2400G APU from rig I use now to the Gigabyte board using the Ryzen 5 2600 and the RX580 would mean I can out the RX580 that requires min 600W PSU and reduce possible burnout of said Coolermaster PSU. Both the Asus and Gigabyte boards are M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 So, all I need really is the AMD Ryzen 5 3400G.........$299. (Yep, I could safely use the Ryzen 2600 CPU and the RX580 in current rig ) Would that be correct and the best path I can take? I am not a serious gamer, I have many COD and BATTELFIELD but usually I play Sniper Elite 4 and the good old Diablo II Lord of destruction (released in 2000 :D ) |

| 1473722 | 2020-12-18 09:55:00 | Something to think about over the weekend: www.computerlounge.co.nz ................................$299 www.computerlounge.co.nz ........ $349 www.computerlounge.co.nz ........ $299 Cost $948 ...... ( $648 if I don't get the AMD-Ryzen5-3400G) If don't get the AMD-Ryzen5-3400G, use my Corsair HX 750 PSU with whichever Board uses the RX580 GPU and the AMD Ryzen 5 2600 CPU. |

I haven't bought an entire PC since 1998. Just kept on upgrading. The main ones are, when you change motherboard, because it's MB, CPU and RAM all at once. Well when you upgrade to next gen anyway... GPUs I used to change every 2nd year..and I was a serious gamer. RAM, well I always went with the more the better....sure it was probably overkill but it was cheap. It always is when it's not quite just out and before it's obsolete. Case only got changed when I needed to. Ditto other parts...inc peripherals like mice, KBs and screens. It's ahell of a lot cheaper. Did sons 2 yrs ago. He was going to buy a whole new one, but finances killed that idea.........he did end up chnaging an awful lot of it, but now 2 yrs later it's still pretty high end. I checked recently...I'd give him till mid next year then maybe a new GPU........... |

| 1473724 | 2020-12-18 21:28:00 | piroska yep I agree. I will order the Ryzen5 3400G today and use it in the Asus MB. Move the 2400G into the Gigabyte MB which I had to send away to get the BIOS updated to run the 2400G because when I bought the Gigabyte MB I was going to buy the Ryzen7 1700 CPU but I bought the 2400G and it wouldn't operate in the GB MB! :D By the time I got the GByte MB back I had bought the Asus Prime B450M-A I use now. The GByte MB had sat unused in its anti-static wrapping & boxing for a year. I have an Intel 512GB, M.2 80mm PCIe* 3.0 x4, 3D2, QLC that has a mangled W10 OS etc installed to it, I can wipe it and use that as & when the time comes. Cheers. |
