1477351 2021-05-27 00:42:00 Businesses use them. The price of using a phone, VOIP, is way cheaper than a mobile that can be misplaced etc. The price of calls / Plans will HAVE to drop as well, there's many people who wont call a mobile as its to expensive.

What about places that don't have mobile coverage ?? Still plenty of those areas about.

maybe. My mum if she just wanted local calling could pay $19 a month (didn't look at Vodafone or 2 degrees)
if she wanted unlimted NZ + Aus calling $26.

Cost of mobiles? Remember these people with landlines are mostly older people, I have a spare (new) flip phone she could use. New $99. Or used, heaps on Trademe, the new ones that is...Not more than that price either.

Places without, yes I know, beats me.
I worked in one remember...there were a few without adsl even, still on dialup. God knows what they do now. One got satelitte and used to have son fax and then scan and forward on to them for the farm stuff.

Another couldn't even get satelitte, line of sight was stuffed due to the nearby forest. She used to bring a laptop over occasionally and use my adsl.

But leaving them aside....who knows I guess the big Telecoms have to arrange something for them, some pooled together rural wifi or some such? I don't know.
My mum isn't too devastated, I showed her the flip ph, she could handle it for calls. She wouldn't txt or do net.

Hope your phone port works better than a friend of mine. He went from Vodafone to one of the power companies. Internet was fine but no phone for 6 weeks. Apparently Vodafone handed the number back to Spark before it could be ported. In the finish he had to get a new phone number.

1477354 2021-05-29 01:29:00 They said 4pm that day. It was up and happy 1/2 hr after they said that. All good now.

I'm quite happy, they were getting a bit of doubt on other forums, not being an ISP till now, but no, they did well.

1477355 2021-05-30 05:54:00 You poor bugger having to deal with Vodafone. :crying

I couldn’t even give them 1:10 for my time with them. :groan:

Not too much of the poor bugger B.M.!!

We had been chasing the local City Council fibre company since 2017, they didn't have the decency to reply to our email requests, so don't run Vod. down!.

The two plastic biscuit holders have been installed and the new ratings (B & A) are attached.

Don't really notice much of a difference.

1477356 2021-05-30 06:13:00 The "Problem" With Fibre is there are different levels. Seen countless number of times that people get fibre and expect it to be a LOT faster where as its not. Thats usually becasue they are paying the low end price, pay low get slower speeds.

Customer 2 weeks ago, was at his place he said they had fibre but wasn't that impressed. Looked at his plan, sure enough bottom end, he rang his ISP - upgraded the plan and now WAY faster and unlimited data, and cost him only $8 more a month.

Another person last week, said they changed from Vodafones HFC to fibre :groan: Tested the speed --- Rubbish really, the sales person insisted it was better (BS!!) Well they dropped from an average of 700Mbps with HFC down to 100 Mbps on Fibre, sure not paying quite as much but the performace these is not there. AND its not as reilable, with HFC if they had any drop outs in a month it was unlucky, these days on Fibre its daily espically at peak times.

Think wai might be right, "you get what you pays for".

This time of day, businesses will be crowding us out no doubt.

No problem with the weather here, paying for 100/20 and getting

10930

I was paying for the same 100/20 with Vodafone and only managing about 30/20 if I was lucky.
