215307 2004-02-14 00:00:00 Greetings,
Welcome to PressF1!

Im sorry I can help you with the why its crashing (Would the answer "Its windows" be good enough?), but I can tell you to try this next time it does:

Hit Ctrl + Shift + Esc

Click on File and then Run

Type in:
explorer

It should manually restart it :-)

Cheers

215308 2004-02-14 00:20:00 I have had the same problem in the past and tracked it down to applications making use of the internet explorer, a.k.a explorer back end.

In my case it was WinMx and the problems became worse after upgrading to ie6.

If it starts to become a major problem and you cannot pin the application that is causing the problem then move to ie5.5.

Mickysoft are no help with this problem as all they say is contact the authour of the software and get them to upgrade to the ie6 API.

215309 2004-02-14 00:36:00 Try using an alterative web browser such as mozilla and all all your IE problems will go away ;) mark.p (383)
215310 2004-02-14 01:14:00 ohh im sorry not ie explorer windows explorer and the problem only arises when the computer becomes unstable and programs stop responding and i when i close the program as in alt +ctrl+delete and end the task windowns explorer crashes and does not reboot the whole desktop disapears and i can only go press alt+ctrl+delete and log off and log back on. Hello1 (5255)
215311 2004-02-14 01:53:00 Yes, We figured that.

The fact is that one of Windows largest shortcomings is the closeness between explorer and internet explorer.

Try what I suggested next time it dies, it'll save logging out and back in again :-)

Cheers

Windows explorer and ie are one in the same as they both make use of the same back end.

Also other software uses this back end and if you are using some software that is not compatable with the changes mickysoft have made to this back end then you will get the problem you are discribing.

if this is a reqular problem then going back to ie5.5 will help.

That's kinda hard seeing as Hello1 is running WinXP Pro, which comes with Internet Explorer 6! ;-)

215314 2004-02-14 02:10:00 how does one go back to IE5.5 when it (xp) only came out with IE6 ??

i suggest you start tracking own whats causeing the crashes in the first place.
