215293 2004-02-13 22:52:00 Using Start/run/msconfig/boot.ini I can get into safe mode from which I can run scans etc. Using F8 on boot up only gives me the option of starting up from CD HDD or Floppy. Selecting the hdd doesn't seem to get me to Safe mode.

Is it really possible to boot into Safe mode after pressing F8 and selecting the hdd??

Thanks

215294 2004-02-13 23:10:00 If using W98se, use the Ctrl key. Windows does have good help file, Press F1 after win has booted. Left click anywhere on the screen first.

215297 2004-02-14 02:55:00 Try F12. ;-) Fire-and-Ice (3910)
215298 2004-02-14 08:17:00 My OS is Me. Pressing Shift after the first spalsh screen gets me into Safe Mode. Shortstop (632)
215299 2004-02-14 17:55:00 when you get that option of booting from cd or hdd take the hdd option THEN hit F8 Repeatedly it should then give you the menu for safe mode and etc drcspy (146)
215300 2004-02-14 20:01:00 turn the computer on and press F2 before it tries to from from the floppy

then when it says which o/s press f2 again to get into "advanced mode"

i think

if that doesnt work try pressing F1 both of those times

then try DEL both of those times if that doesnt work

if ti still doesnt work tell me and i'll hit myself around the head with a hammer ;)

215301 2004-02-14 20:44:00 Megaman - you is gonna have one heck of a headache.

F1 & F2 led me into the Bios Setup Utility after asking for a password.
Del did nothing.

Turns out that despite the instructions saying tap F8 the key I needed is F5. Now I can learn about Safe Mode and what it can do.

Thanks to all

215302 2004-02-14 22:12:00 YES f5 does take you direct to safe mode however F8 also gives you a menu of other functions that you may wish to use, safe mode is one of the items on that menu drcspy (146)
