216004 2004-02-16 21:15:00 Hi all

I think most of you will be happy the latest package for jetstream packagage that going to be introduce next month...

just a question, according to the New Zealand hearld "www.nzherald.co.nz

where is says:
"Jetstream customers considering switching over to the new Telecom Xtra plans next month may be better off waiting a few months to see what competing providers can come up with.

so is anyone out here will like to switch to this flat rate plan rather than waiting for the competitor offering???

hope to see alot of feedback from the discussion

216005 2004-02-16 22:27:00 My take on the whole thing is similar to that article bar one point. Why wait when you can swap now for the faster connection and then to something different a couple of months later. I haven't heard anything about charges for changing plans since Telecom wants everyone on them. The only downside of my comments is that you support Telecom for a little while, but to me that is a small price to pay for a little more speed in my day.

So when other ISP's dish up some nice new juicey plans I will probably very quickly swap away from the monopoly.

Some people have mentioned about supporting your ISP, well they will get there change with either unbundling or bitstream. Just gotta wait on the government.

216007 2004-02-17 00:07:00 Keep in mind that it will almost definately be 'managed' i.e p2p and gaming, ftp and some other forms of conectivity will be allocated limited bandwidth so I don't see the point of anyone changing from the 256k plan at least which although its crap seems to be the best value. 216008 2004-02-17 04:14:00 The way I read it is that you can stay with your ISP and still get the 256/128 plan it will just cost you more. You will pay $59.95 for th 10GB limit one PLUS your ISP charges.
Just because you are using Jetstream does not mean you have to use Xtra as an ISP is the way I read the latest one.

Someone correct me if I am wrong as I am sure someone will.

216009 2004-02-17 09:33:00 The quoted package prices ($39.95, $49.95, $59.95) are a complete package.
ISP (Xtra) is included.

For $39.95 you get 256/128 @ 1 GB per month.

For $59.95 you get double the download speed of Jetstream, at a cost reduction of $5 on Jetstream Starter with Xtra. With the bonus of no high MB usage over the cap, just a reduction in speed to dial-up equivalent.

JS Starter will dissappear at that rate.

216010 2004-02-18 01:01:00 I'm waiting.

A) Who wants to change all their email addresses when something better might come out in justa couple of months. You only have to look at the rate of change in Aus to know that the first deal that comes out gets bettered pretty quick (though they do have true LLU)
B) The article is referring to other isps being able to provide their own bandwidth to support the service (and their own cost structures - things like free local bandwidth, higher limits, etc). The only thing it sounds like is for some STUPID reason the commissioner is sayin telecom is only going to have to provide bitstream access at 256k - which is a total joke and a measure that reduces competition and - well - speed which you can get everywhere else in the world at decent prices. Just look at what the aussies get - bc.whirlpool.net.au
C) Telecom are monopolists and acting like it (else we'd have much better plans) - I'd rather support competition.

Read right at the bottom and it says they will offer it to other ISP at wholesale price which the price they give is $10 less than the total for Xtra. If paradise charge a $20 ISP charge then you get it for $10 more than the Xtra package.
Jetstream works in this manner. You don't have to be with Xra to have full Jetstream but you do have to pay their over inflated prices plus the fee your ISP charges.
JetStart is a completely different kettle of fish which Telecom just charge you for its charge and the ISP does it's charge.

To get it I would just transfer from the JetStart to the JetStream plan on paradise and pay the $20 ISP charge and then whatever charges Telecom charge. That would be the $59.95 for a total of $79.95 per month. $20 more than I pay now. $10 more than I pay now for 128 speed. Well worth it I think.
