2004-02-16 03:57:00 | I am on XP & Maryan is on W98, networked.. WE would like to transfer all the music in the XP "My Music" folder across to the 98. The XP Music is a 'Shared' folder, except that it won't share. I suppose we could re-load each CD into the 98, but wondered if it is possible to do it computer to computer? TIA Poppa John. | Poppa John (284) | |

2004-02-16 04:23:00 | Hi F&I, I hear what uoy are saying but don't know how to do it. Anyway a development. I can now get the entire 21 CD/File?folders of Music on the XP to display on the 98. This by Accessing the XP "C" drive. It will only play one track at a time, but thats the next question. This one now is,,, How can I transfer/copy all of the My Music to the 98 which is displayed on the 98 screen. PJ

2004-02-16 04:28:00 | Hi PJ, Could you please explain "It wont share"? You should be able to go into the XP's C: Drive, then: Documents and Settings Your_username My Documents Then right-click on My Music and choose Copy. If there's nothing in there, replace "Your_Username" with "All Users" in the above step (Without the quotation marks). Chill.

2004-02-16 04:36:00 | Chill "It won't share" Sorry I have got past that one now. the (* can access the XP "C" drive & aquire the My Music folder(?) & display its contents. But it will only play one track at a time, not the whole CD as does the XP. Also the XP has to be turned on for th 98 to get at the XP. SO..... how to transfer/copy all the XP Music across to the 98???? PJ | Poppa John (284) | |
2004-02-16 04:48:00 | My suggestion to create another folder to copy your music files to was in case there was a problem with the My Music folder but I'll try another suggestion. I take it that you can see the Win XP's My Music folder and its contents from the Win 98, right? When you say the My Music folder is "shared" does this mean that if you right click on that folder and choose Properties it has a tick in "Share this folder on the network"? If the properties are as above you should be able to just drag and drop the folders (I would advise one at time) from within Windows Explorer on the Win 98 PC. If you are unable to do that could you be more specific on what you method you are actually trying to do.

2004-02-16 04:52:00 | Shucks, was a bit slow before . :D OK, so what do you mean by "play one track at a time"? You only want to listen to one track at a time don't you? > Also the XP has to be turned on for th 98 to get at the XP . Yes, of course, if the files are still on the Win XP . Copy all the files to the Win 98 so that you don't need the Win XP on when wishing to listen . It means having two copies of each song (one on each computer) but is that a problem? Quite handy to have a backup in case one PC spits the dummy . ;-) > SO . . . . . how to transfer/copy all the XP Music across to the 98???? As I said in my previous post .

2004-02-16 08:16:00 | Righty ho . . . . > It is possible to see the XP My Music entire folder & play it on the 98, but only if the XP is booted . Yes, because the Win XP computer needs to be on for the Win 98 PC to have access to the Win XP's hard drive . :-) > On the XP I can "Queue it up" & play the whole CD/file . Select the same CD from the 98 & it will only play one track, not the whole CD Ah, now I get ya . What program are you using to play the music files with on Win 98? I have no trouble queuing up a folder of music files with Foobar2000 and playing them from across my network . I would expect Winamp to do the same but can't test that theory as I haven't currently got it installed . OK, a step by step tutorial on copying your music files from Win XP to Win 98: On the Win 98 machine: 1 . Open Windows Explorer twice so that you have two copies running and resize/arrange them so that you can see both at the same time . 2 . In one WE go to the Network Neighbourhood folder, double click on it and navigate to the Win XP's music folder (Folder A) . 3 . In the other WE create or open the folder where you want the music files copied to (Folder B) . 4 . Go to Folder A, select a music folder, CTRL+C to copy, click on Folder B, CTRL+V to paste . Repeat for all folders and/or files you want copied over to the Win 98 PC . Hopefully that will work for you, let us know how you get on . ;-)
