215874 2004-02-16 01:45:00 1. In Control Panel, double-click Services.
2. Select the Messenger service.
3. Click Stop.

-or-

Run the following at the command prompt:

net stop messenger

215876 2004-02-16 02:02:00 That's becauce you won't have the appriopiate admin rights and permissions.
Forgot to add-Administrative Tools - then services but its most likely they wont be available. Contact the comp. support staff.

215877 2004-02-16 06:42:00 If you can't stop the service via net stop messenger, then you don't have admin rights on the machine. Are you at SIT?

Anyway if they annoy you again with messages, do a DoS on them, its simple.

In the command prompt type this:

[b]for /L %i IN (1,1,200) DO net send computername S.T.F.U.

They'll have a nice time clicking OK on the 200 messages u have just sent them. And if they are really pissing you off, try 1000 or so. They'll end up having to reboot to get rid of the messages, because if they can't disable the messenger service either then they are stuffed ]:)

For the computername, just put in there whatever the number or name was who's machine sent you the message.

Just remember don't tell anyone that code, keep it a secret :) And ah try not to get the messenger service disabled on the polytech networks wherever you are cos it is rather useful at times.

215878 2004-02-16 07:31:00 Hi Tammy, as annoying as they may be, if they are admin messages it would be better if you leave them alone. If you are a student, you may find you have broken their rules for computer usage if you try to disable them, and they will know it was you from your logon.

You could find yourself chucked out of your course if sysadmin have no sense of humour.

Cheers

215880 2004-02-16 10:20:00 I agree Billy T and I dont think any of the previous commands will work ( novel network). If these meassage become a problem my advice write down completely the message (often the sender is identified either by terminal number or username ) and go see the help desk people they should be able to track the person or advise you beama (111)
215881 2004-02-17 00:03:00 After typing the commands it says

/L% was unexpected this time.

What does this mean?

215882 2004-02-17 00:06:00 As scary as this sounds if u can send mssages like this through to other users then am i rite its possible to send messages from one computer to another computer anywhere in the world?
For example.I'm using paradise isp dialup.People can use their personal computers and send messages to me and instead of using username like here people could find my ip and send messges.Am i right?
Another way of saying it.This is known as ddos attack but instead of flooding i am saying writing and displaying messages to another person's computer.
