Thread ID: 42580 2004-02-15 10:42:00 New FAQ Request - how to open FAQ's? Jester (13) Press F1

215748 2004-02-15 10:42:00 I am trying to open FAQ 8a and 8b. A friend has an unwanted homepage, and I was going to direct her to the FAQ but thought I should check it first.

After about 5 mins I get a message "The document contains no data" using Firebird.

IE just times out with the page cannot be dispayed message.

So, what's up with the FAQ's?

And, can anyone suggest steps that my fairly non-computer literate friend can take. (Here's an example - I got another email from her tonight - she is panicking because she has the "jdbqmgr teddy bear". I politely reminded her I told her about this a year ago when she last faked out about it).

I have semi-composed an email suggesting she looks at "Hijack This" - but wonder if that will mean more emails asking what 'so and so.exe' is etc.

Thanks

J

215750 2004-02-15 11:31:00 Here is a copy of the last time people had trouble and my way of getting into the Faq pages:

Quick and failsafe way into faq's: FAQS/Click on: Chilling Silence/Show all user messages/Type Faq#5 into search box/Press search and BINGO you have it.

And here is the link to the thread that this comes from so you can see how it relates to what you want to do:

pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

Hope this helps, it has always worked for me.

215751 2004-02-15 11:37:00 Link to 8a obtained using my method:

pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

and to 8b:

pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

That should do it.

pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

and:

pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

That should be correct.

215755 2004-02-15 13:07:00 So - a true Scholar & a Gentleman...

Now I'm briefly hijacking this thread to know how you got on with RealPlayer (previous thread) because I'm still wary of installing it again with its garbage.

So does that thread's info really get rid of all the junk if I follow it?

(And then I can listen to Terry's Friday night music properly with Real?

215756 2004-02-15 13:29:00 Yes, I d/l the program from the BBC site and installed it, switching off all the options that were offered, so it wouldn't take over the system as it did the last time I used it. I haven't used it much but so far no mysterious pop-ups or anything unusual.

:)
