216075 2004-03-25 04:41:00 It's best to"eject" it so that any directories and buffers have been sorted out.

In the Setup/Control there's an icon for the PCMCIA. Make an shortcut to that on the desktop. When you click on that it will show the adaptor. Click on that and it has a box to click to turn the card off before removing it. (There may be an Eject option if you rightclick on the CF in the My Computer page which woulddo the same thing).

You need to take the adapter out to remove the CF. The adaptor can be inserted at any time, and if it has the CF in it, it will magically appear as another disk drive in the My Computer page. I havebn't had problems when I have forgotten to turn off the CF ... but I try to remember. Sometime it will bite me.

216076 2004-03-25 07:34:00 Thanks so much for the help.
I relayed the information over the phone and yes, just as you said Graham, she made a shortcut and worked from there. When she closed the PCMCIA, she said the icon disappeared off the icon tray. But she almost dropped the phone when she ejected the adapter as the computer made a beeping sound. She then reinserted it and the D folder opened on her screen. Thanks again, but I am not sure how the Great NZ novel is going. Thanks again
