215799 2004-02-17 03:36:00 I am currently trying to be a non-smoker, having smoked off and on over the past 20 years. It is extremely difficult to stop.

One factor which convinced me: medical research showed that of all the healthy decisions a person could make (regular exercise, fibre diet, etc) stopping smoking had the singular and greatest benefit.

Yes, we can all talk about liberty and freedom of choice. But when we become sick, we want all the marvellous medicines and health-care. We also expect our family to look after us. That's pretty selfish. We have an obligation to each other not to deliberately sponge on other people and keeping healthy is a simple choice.

I enjoy smoking but I have no illusions about gangrene, heart disease, strokes, blindness, emphysema - and cancer.

Thats what the tobacco companies love. Their customers use this product which once they start (marketing, peer pressure etc etc), its blimmin hard to stop. The money just keeps on rolling in.

Smokers, smoke in the privacy of your

on sombody else. Lock this thread please
- completely pointless.

215804 2004-02-17 06:33:00 I dont know from personal experience but i dont know how much more addictive bought tobacco would be than from tobacco that you grow that does have all the crap in it like Tar, Arsenic etc.... etc... MrBeef (342)
215805 2004-02-17 07:24:00 Now as a recovered addicted smoker, hands up all those of you who claim to be non-smokers, but partake of pot, party drugs, and other equally obnoxious hi-giving substances. Be truthful now, who can honestly claim never ever to have had pot ????????

( I will be the first volunteer to put my hand up :) )

215806 2004-02-17 07:48:00 Re Terry P's question. I have never even seen POT, let alone smoked it.And I hardly ever touch alcahol. So I reckoon I'm entitled to my cigarettes.

215807 2004-02-17 08:13:00 My hand is up, i have never had the urge to try any of those recreational type substances, and as to smokeing anything no i dont, and wont, i have better things to waste my money on, and as to alcohol i barely drink enough in a year to keep an ant drunk.

My one addiction would be coffee, and chocolate......... :D
