216173 2004-02-18 13:06:00 Hi guys

You gave me an idea, Tweak'e. Since I've been back in NZ, I did update my sound. I have now rolled back the driver to the original - I'll let you know what happens.

Onboard AC'97 card.

I'll let you know shortly. Going to try out morrowind.

216174 2004-02-18 13:08:00 Hi Guys

The reason being to roll back is I have just
tried a graphics CPU intensive prog that sent
my CPU temp up to 65 DegC. A prog that
doesn't use the sound card, or any sound to
speak of. Programme was Calista, Astronomy
prog.

Just to let you know the rollback to
older drivers didn't resolve the problem.

Any further help?

216176 2004-02-24 09:42:00 Hi Guys

Another update.

When it does crash, and if I can get the
TaskManager of XP [Ctrl-Alt-Del], the CPU
usage is zero, memory usage is zero,
pagefile is zero, if fact, everything on that
tab registers zero. If that snipet of info
helps, that'll be good for more possible
solutions. I have moved the computer into
a bigger cooler room, but the problem still
occurs.

216177 2004-02-24 20:48:00 64 deg is not hot for a Duron, getting there but not fatal. Having said that heat monotoring is only indicative, ie, not accurate.

Have a look at your Event Viewer (right click My Computer > Manage > System Tools > Event Viewer (I use win2k so, yours could be diff)) for a clue to the crashes, you could then try program or system logs from the info gained there, if it is given.

A shot in the dark is DirectX, try updating it.

If it's crashed Task Manager may well show zero as nothing is working/running. On the other hand if it's struggling to handle something (like 3d) then you could expect to see high numbers depending on what it is.

Has the case temperature reduced from what it was?
