| 216129 | 2004-02-17 04:26:00 | What CyaBro was trying to explain is.... While you had your bid at $53 , someone else either autobid or bid $70. Now can you see a problem here...you have a maximum bid of $70, so does the other person? Who is going to "lead" the bids? What happens, is that as you were first to put in the $70 maximum, then trademe puts you ahead of the other bidder. Another trap is to DOUBLE CHECK you have the "autobid" box ticked! |

| 216131 | 2004-02-18 01:11:00 | That's how auctions work . Obviously someone else bid (almost certainly an auto bid) $70 (or $68 :D) just after you put in your auto bid . The computer would have done the auto bid sequence whereby you are the top bidder at X+increment, the other autobid tops your one, your auto bid is entered . . . Since it was just two "actual" bids there is no point in showing the whole sequence . So at the moment you are the top bidder . At $70 . I assume you were prepared to bid "up to $70" . "Real" auctions work exactly the same . An absentee bidder sets a limit . The auctioneer bids for the absentee . Auctioneers don't cheat (in my experience) . They want to have customers coming back . |
