216269 2004-02-17 09:49:00 Anyone got any idea why after compiling the 2.6.1 Kernel for Mandrake 9.2, the DVD writer & CD Rom are reported as being removed. I can't find anything in menuconfig related to CD & DVD that's not selected. Otherwise the kernel works ok.

216270 2004-02-17 09:54:00 I had a similar message on kernel 2.6 with the CD drive not being a valid block. Have a look at this post (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) and see if it helps. Jen C (20)

216272 2004-02-17 10:02:00 Did you enable Devfs in the 2.6 kernel? Its not by default because its been labelled "obsolete"....

216273 2004-02-17 10:08:00 No I didn't. It was marked as obsolete, I'll give that a try tomorrow as well.
Thanks

216274 2004-02-17 10:32:00 You'll need that first then, otherwise you're going to have to use the Sysfs (Im pretty sure thats what its called).

See /sys ;-)

You'll need to enabled mounting of devfs at boot too, but they're right next to each other IIRC.
