216906 2004-02-20 15:36:00 I bid on a cellphone at trademe.

The person who set up the bid said 'perfect working condition'.
I asked a question about if it contains a battery and if the face plates are scratched and if there's any wear.I also asked about the pin number on the fone because im not so sure if u reset it the number will go back to the original number.
I had problem where my computer won't refresh the window. So thats why i posted 5 of the same question.I didnt know the message was sent.
HE wrote bak saying

stop wasting my time with stupid questions, and if u ask a question f ask it once only! yes i said "perfect working condition" so obviously it has a battery! and its my phone so i will restore the defalt settings and you can make the pin whateva the f u like

Would u reckon its a stupid question?I mean it said perfect working condition.IT refers that the phone works properly. It didn't say anything if it contain any battery if i buy the fone and the pin number I asked what the number is assuming that even if u reset the settings the number won't change.

I actually feel a bit angry that he came and wrote that replied. The info he wrote for the fone he's putting up to bid wasn't clear i reckon.

Im left thinking i don't believe its a stupid question.IF someone say that the fone is in perfec workingt condition would u say that the question i asked fits into the word perfect working condition?

216907 2004-02-20 18:41:00 Some people cop an attitude on trademe (and elsewhere, let's face it, even here). I don't buy from anyone who is a jerk.
I really get irritated with "do you have a buy now" questions. I have almost got to the point of saying something like "if you don't see a buy now, there isn't one, there won't ever be, so get over it and bid if you are serious otherwise sod off" in auctions I run.
If the person wants to sell something, they should be nice to the customer. End of story.

216908 2004-02-20 20:33:00 I would take "perfect working condition" as just that.
Without a battery, the phone will not work (even if the charger is connected usually).
So a battery (in good condition) would be assumed.

The critical information not given (or asked by you it seems) is if the phone is a prepay, a contracted handset or a contract free handset.

If its a locked prepay, its value is lower, as it cannot be used on a contract without paying more $ to get it unlocked.
If its already under a contract that has not expired, and the old owner does not pay it out to the phone company, there can be ongoing aggro. If its contract free and not a locked prepay, then its not a problem.

216909 2004-02-20 20:49:00 Apparently, they don't lock phones in NZ because there is only one Carrier (Vodafone). They do it in other countries to ensure loyalty (sort of).
The phone is not tied to the contract, the sim card, number, and postpay account have to keep on paying regardless of what happens to the phone (lost, sold, stolen, broken, eaten by wild stampeding chickens, etc).

216910 2004-02-20 21:21:00 One carrier? Never heard of Telecom? Shame on you Robo - I'm not sure about their phones, I prefer Vodafone using Sim cards.
Bye

216911 2004-02-20 21:21:00 Sorry Robo, but they do (or did).

Couple of years back I wanted another phone, and quickly found out that a lot of scondhand ones were prepay locked (021).

The locked ones would not work with my contract SIM card, only a prepay SIM card.

I was dealing with Vodafone senior management on a project at the time, and they confirmed this. (They also gave me a top of the line phone for nothing, but that's another story)
The lock is tied to the IME I think, internally in the phone.

1) Put your opinion of the seller in the Feedback section of his post so as other people can see what type of person they are dealing with.
2) Don't even consider buying off the ignoramus.
Optional;
3) Post another letter to him using the opening line,..Shove your phone....etc.]:)

216913 2004-02-20 23:45:00 thanks albatross.
Im switching to telecom so i don't need to worry about the lock
Telecom is a bit cheaper.
Can anyone tell me if vodafone's reception is better than vodafone.I know that it covers more coverage but if u were to talk to someone on the phone would telecom's quality be better than vodafones?

216914 2004-02-20 23:48:00 I do have a question. If u reset to the defaut setting using the phone will the phone's pin number go bak to the original number when u first bought it.
Hmm im not so sure because if everybody can just go to reset in the phone option there's no use of having the pin number on the phone
