| 216831 | 2004-02-20 08:53:00 | I run Windows XP Home and Word (from Office) 2002. There were no problems until recently, all was normal. Now when in Word (and the same happens in all my saved files) the program shows a symbol at the start and finish of each line, shows dots between words - I have clicked something but do not know what and need desperately to get back to the plain use of Word. I may have noticed a new toolbar in Word - have 3 at the top (thought only had 2) and wonder if this is the problem. The toolbar starts with options (4) named as Final Showing Markup, Final, Original Showing Mark Up and Original. Then there are icons in yellow with blue ticks/arrows - which I do not use any of and don't think it was always there? The symbols at each line look like a music (?) symbol or flag facing left? Sorry about the description but can you help get me a standard Word page - no symbols or spaced dots in the text etc. Will keep my fingers crossed. MaggieK |

| 216832 | 2004-02-20 09:53:00 | To get rid of the dots etc, click the same symbol as at the end of the sentence thats on the toolbar. Hovering the mouse over the button should give a text tooltip of "show/hide" The "symbol" (flag facing left?) looks a bit like a musical note upside down - its showing where returns are inserted in the document. The dots show the spaces. Its a type of "reveal code" for Word. To get rid of the "reviewing toolbar" simply right click the mouse on a vacant part of the toolbar and a drop down Toolbar menu will allow you to select or de-select any of the toolbars as you need them (or don't) |
