216610 2004-02-19 06:56:00 My computer is about 9 months old.ASUS P4S8X_X mobo P4 2.66Hz NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4200 with AGP8X & 512M RAM. Up until recently it has only minor problems easily fixed. The problem I have is that I cant drag & drop, I can cut & paste and all other functions as far as I can tell are normal except that after boot up I get a freeze up after the first 1 to 4 mouse clicks, then I start and stop the task manager and all returns to
normal and stays that way untill the next boot up or restart except the drag & drop problem is always there. Steps I have taken so far to cure the problem. Reinstalling windows XP several times including over the top and fresh install. Removing all my files to another computer and reinstall windowsXP to a partition. Flash the bios on the mobo & video card. Changed the RAM from another computer. Removed the battery from the mobo for 2 hours. Disconnected printer, scanner,
ADSL Router, Reinstall Windows on a new hard drive and the problem remains. I have had a few times when the drag and drop returns, after a fresh install it lasts untill the next restart and sometimes when I go into safe mode. I have done lots of Google searches and I found a few similar problems but only one identical and that did not get a solution. I have done all the virus, trojan, worm and blaster scans recommended. One other problem that may be related my recently downloaded and burned Knoppix iso freezes up when I try to run it,at first I thought it might have been a bad download so I tried an old Knoppix from PC World and that is the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What kinda ram you got ?.......and is the system set to 'hyperthreading' ?......not sure that hyper will make any diff but........the ram may......check the bios settings for your ram make sure it's set to spd ? (think I got that one right)
