216604 2004-02-19 06:40:00 Hi.
hey - i was wondering, is it possible to get PrePaid credit cards - well, not actually credit cards - debit cards that act as Credit cards?

In other words - eftpos cards that work like CC's (like use over net)

Becuase I'm Under 18 - so i can't get a CC but i want to buy some stuff overseas - only accept CC - i thought if you coulkd get them, you wouldn't need credit checks (as you're not buying on credit) and could be under 18.
And if i wanted something - put amount into card, and buy it - a good secrity feature also - if someone gets the number - can't take heaps out.

If anyone knows of something like this - let me no.
Thanks

216605 2004-02-19 06:49:00 You *may* be able to convince your parents to have another card issued, in your name, under their account, with, say a $500 - $1000 limit, that you prove to them that you keep in credit, or at least put money in prior to making any purchases.

Ultimately they would be responsible for your payments and how the card is used - but if you set up an AP to the account on a reguular basis you would be showing a commitment.

Some people use a low limit on a separate CC to avoid fraudulent use while on the net.

216606 2004-02-19 07:13:00 I've hactually written to several banks suggesting that they create such a card , but I get the same reply, "We are considering the idea and may well impliment it in the future" The was an internet card that you paid at a dairy for but very few internet sites supported it so it was virtually useless. 216607 2004-02-19 09:00:00 I found this - www.westernunion.com

Thats what i'm after - except, its only in the US - well, you can only put money in in the US.

i just need a NZ version!

216609 2004-02-20 02:50:00 Well, Western Union in NZ said they might consider it if there was enough interest. At present, they are not considering it. I suppose if enough people ask the chances would improve :-)
