216613 2004-02-19 05:08:00 I've seen this problem disscussed all over the internet but have not yet found a solution.

I can connect to the internet fine. The modem is an old ISA Rockwell 56Kb, and I'm connecting with kppp.

I start getting into trouble about 2 minutes after connection. The modem goes slower...slower...and finally "stalls". I know there are a lot of other people with this problem so maybe someone can share some past knowlegde.

System: 566MHz Celeron CPU, 256MB SD-RAM
O/S: Mandrake Linux 9.0

Any help would obviously be appreciated.

216614 2004-02-19 05:32:00 Have you manually set your ISP DNS address? I run kppp connecting to xtra on RH8 and it's fine. No slowdown at all. This is using a 33.6k ISA modem. Also set the login script tab like so-

Expect ogin:
Send your username
Expect ssword
Send your password

Set authentication to Script-based.

216615 2004-02-19 05:58:00 I just did a bit of looking up for that Modem.

I used to have one.. About two years ago.

They suck. They're by no means the best of quality.
I noted down a few reviews back when ours was dialling intermittently and they all agreed they were low-quality.

Go pick up a Modem from the likes of Qmb. They're doing a modem and it has Linux drivers on the Disc if you dont already have them in your kernel :-)

Spend an extra $20 and get a good modem IMHO. It doesnt look like theres any other solution.

216616 2004-02-19 05:59:00 Just double checked my script add to the end-

Send ppp

For some reason just this seemed to work.

You could try wvdail as well.

216617 2004-02-19 06:11:00 What are the exact specs of the modem, ie model no. Chill seems to be on an everything is **** rampage at the mo ;). Did the modem work under that infamous OS from Redmond ok? mark.p (383)
216618 2004-02-19 09:45:00 Ha! I think Chill might be right about this one, but here is what is on the chip:

I am convinced that it is not the modem as I have tried another (33.6kB) and the same, annoyences occur. I think I have to change some settings, which ones I'm not sure...

216620 2004-02-19 09:56:00 Looks like he beat me to the chase ;-)

If you've tried others I could be all wrong... Perhaps the model number is slightly out?

....I have been wrong before (Yes Mark, it is possible for me to be wrong ;-))

216621 2004-02-19 10:22:00 I appear to have double posted, sorry to all of those who mind. I had totallly forgotten about that one. Any way to delete threads? Caesius (3758)
216622 2004-02-19 13:15:00 That would be a negative.

I wouldnt worry too much, just keep it in mind for next time.

So does the jury say Im wrong yet?
