216828 2004-02-20 08:27:00 Go to the forum's FAQ section and follow the instructions in the Spyware FAQ and/or Homepage Hijacking FAQ. Link to FAQs is at top right of this page. Note that they may take quite a while to load. tommy (2826)
216829 2004-02-20 08:35:00 If you don't mention what version of Windows you run, prepare to be underwhelmed with offers for help.
On the slight chance you are using XP, you might try the steps below.

You have a bad infection in the PC.

This involves delving into the Registry. If any data on the PC is valuable, back it up first. Only do this if you are confident in working in the registry, create a restore point first. I am not aware of any successful way to fix it otherwise.

1. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and kill the reg32.exe process

2. Start Menu -> Run -> msconfig32.exe -> Startup -> Remove the reg32.exe

3. Delete or Remove reg32.exe from C:\Windows directory

4. Run regedit and remove the lines containing "secure.html" and "defaultsearch" text. Also try to find a line containing "reg32.exe"

5. Open your browser and set you homepage to whatever you want.

6. Reboot the system

216830 2004-02-20 10:35:00 It is turning out the most often "infection" is caused by coolweb. It may be easier to try the cleaner first called cwshredder from here (www.majorgeeks.com) and is usually followed by Spybot from here (www.safer-networking.org)

Ensure you do an online update of Spybot, before running it.

Post back and let us know how you get on.
