216556 2004-02-19 02:50:00 I recently purchased a Lumix (panasonic) still digital camera and it has a strange attatchment on the USB cable. I wonder if anyone could tell me what it is?

Thanks.

216557 2004-02-19 02:57:00 Anti interference from other magnetic fields usually made of ferrite and prevent stray currents flowing on the lines and possibly corrupting the information carried.
I also use them on my amateur radio gear for this reason. Cheers.......heaton

216558 2004-02-19 03:00:00 It is actually a piece of Ferrite. It is used in this case to "short" out high frequencies (RFI), which usually can be induced into the lead. These frequencies could corrupt the data passing through the lead, by making a high into a low (or visa-versa) or overloading the electronic devices at each end of the cable.
So it is just a Filter. :)
