2004-02-22 20:54:00 | Will go through this "hijack it" process shortly - just hoping that someone else has experienced this annoying dialling and found a way to prevent it. | Gill (1530) | |
2004-02-22 21:29:00 | >if useing ICS try turning off the autodail option Can you tell me how to do this? the setting should be in the networking wizard. look for "auto dail on request" or something similar. with it off the client pc won't casue the other pc to dail the net when the cleint wants net access.

2004-02-23 04:47:00 | If I turn this off will the client PC be able to use the internet? I'm not sure this is on the right track.....I am trying to identify what programme might be casuing the computers to want to dial up all the time.

2004-02-23 07:04:00 | Go to Start, Run and type in: msconfig Have a look under the Startup tab for the list of programs and check if any there may be causing your problem.

2004-02-23 07:11:00 | yes the client pc will still be able to use the net, it just means the other pc will need to be already connected on the net first. there are a few other programs around such as RDU which cam dial up the connection. yes it is best to find the program that is doing it but somtimes its an innocent program just checking to see if net access is advailable (even MS search will check for net access) which prompts the other pc to dail out.

2004-02-23 08:05:00 | Hi Gill, Try this, it's worked on 3 similar problems. Go to Internet options and select the Advanced tab. Scroll down to the section called Security. The first two check boxes called "Check for publishers certificate revocation" and "Check for server certificate revocation" should both be clear. This only seems to be an issue on systems running Nortons Antivirus and other Nortons applications. HTH PC

2004-02-23 08:44:00 | This maight sound pretty basic but have you checked the email settings on both machines??......if they are set to check for email at set times and they have anything but "never dial a connection" ticked that might explain the constant attempts to acess. I know Zonealarm also tries to get online to check for updates as well as realplayer and several other programs. Perhaps making sure all auto updates is disabled not just in windows or Norton. | dipstick01 (445) | |
