| 217336 | 2004-02-22 02:07:00 | It all started with the United Nations (www.un.org); wondered whether they'd also grabbed nu.org for the French and others who put the noun before the adjective (the answer is no; there is no website at www.nu.org). The domain name is apparently owned by Network Users, of Bradbury Australia. That led to thoughts of the Nuie domain and the reported widespread use thereof for things/people that are "nu"; either Swedish and new or French and naked. So I tried "filles.nu" (got about what I expected). "Femmes.nu" which has apparently been closed down by the .nu organisation for some breach of T&C or something similar. What about "hommes.nu"? That failed to respond first time; so I tracerted it and finished up at 64.9.39.241. Tried that IP address in the browser (Mozilla Firebird) and got a French travel agent - Agence-de-Voyage.net ("achetez vos billets d'avion aux meilleurs prix"). Then I tried "www.hommes.nu" again and found myself looking at a b/w picture of a nude man lying on his stomach with the word GAY written over his butt in red, and the alias-URL www.homsexuel.net. Tracerted www.agence-de-voyages.net and that too finishes up at 64.9.39.241. How can both sites apparently function from the same address, and how do they avoid sending their gay males to the travel agent and vice-versa? Incidentally, I couldn't resist looking at "homosexuelle.net", to see if it catered for lesbians. It carries an advertisement for a couple of erotic books, but is promoted as "for rent" So if anyone's interested.... Argus |

| 217337 | 2004-02-22 02:49:00 | this is called virtual hosts. both URLs are to the same IP address. the web server at that IP will respond diffrently depending on what the HTTP header says your looking for. very normal, ISPs do it a lot IHUG will offer hosting with a domain and they might have 100 domains running off 1 web server. |
