217621 2004-02-23 08:03:00 I just installed a new Alcatel SpeedtouchPC internal ADSL card for Jetstream. I was a previous dial-up customer and in the dialup networking window I still have my old shortcut (it still works).

On installation of the new ADSL card, it restarted windows and put an icon on the desktop called 'Alcatel Connect'. According to the manual when doubleclicked, it should open a window to type in user names and passwords, before making a new connection. BUT - when I doubleclick on it, it begins dialing and can't make a connection! I see it has already made a new connection shortcut in dialup networking also! BUT - how could it, as I haven't been able to enter any user name or password yet!?

Should I completely remove the old dialup shortcut to my previous 56k connection?

Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks.

217622 2004-02-23 20:19:00 First things first Bruce, Jetstream doesn't dial up. It is an always-on permanently connected service. Dial up boxes are not required and normally all you have to do is enter your username in the form yourname.xadsl@xtra.co.nz (for xtra, other ISPs would be similar) enter your password and that is it. Apart from anything you have to do to install & configure the card of course.

You need to go into your browser (Tools>Internet Options>Connections) and tell it not to dial a connection though.

I am assuming that your Jetstream service has been enabled at the exchange and tou have the necessary filter(s) in place to isolate your phone(s) from the incoming line.

Have a look down on the right hand side and see if there is a monitoring icon for your speedtouch. If you right click on that there should be a settings tab that will take you to where you enter your username and password.

Also check under you internet properties that you have this conection as your default.

217625 2004-02-24 01:21:00 In order to make a connection with jetstream you need to configure the following options:

ADSL Protocol: G.DMT
Connection Protocol: PPPOA (RFC 2364)
VPI: 0
VCI:100
Framing: VCMUX

Then you will need your login details.

How these options are configured with your modem should be covered in the manual.

One thing to be wary of is that sometimes the VCI & VPI are entered as the phone number to dial, but this is not made clear in the manual..

217626 2004-02-24 10:38:00 Got it sorted thanks everyone. You'll never guess what it was... In Dialup Networking, where the new connection icon was sitting, the window was minimised in size and wasn't showing the 'connections' txt!!! Cos I didn't see it or think to resize the window I was stumped.

Upon resizing and clicking on it, I was then able to enter the password etc... and hey presto...

Thanks to all. :)
