2004-02-25 09:21:00 | Hi ya, Word, XP, ok am in the process of doing a report and want to print some, like a dummy run so i can take with me to school and scribble all over, But when i press print the screen goes blank and then about 60 seconds later says program not responding etc, have since found out that i have very little or no colour ink left, it is in black text, its a near new black cartridge. will this not print or can i change it to print in black only somewhere? is this the printer prob or a program prob? due to lack of ink you think ? and yes i will get a new ink cartridge. to get it printed i am going to email it to myself and print on other printer i think if i cant find a fix for it tonight. and i said i hadnt had any puter probs....... duh! thanxs all, for another of beetles pathetic questions. beetle

2004-02-25 09:32:00 | Hi beetle I assume you have tried switching off both PC and Printer and rebooting/restarting, this often cures strange problems like that. Secondly, test the printer by printing out its own test page. This should be able to be produced without the PC even being on, check the printer manual for how to do it. Of course the string could be broken too, so don't forget to check and see how long it is. Could be too short.:D Try those then come back with results, and don't forget to tell us the brand and model of printer though. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2004-02-25 22:59:00 | Hi beetle 1) If you need your work printed urgently, save to a floppy disk or CD and take it to a friend/local secretarial or business service to print out. 2) There is no reason why you would need to update your drivers. 3) When you next change your printer, think about an HP laser for B&W (they are cheap enough now) and get a Canon for colour. Also cheap, reliable and economic for ink. 4) I don't think your string is the problem. 5) My sympathies to you for your present trials and tribulation. Life can be a ***** sometimes, and always when you are least able to cope. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2004-02-25 23:43:00 | Hiya Beetle :-) > will this not print or can i change it to print in black only somewhere? I am not familiar with Epsom printers (apart from hearing people whinge about them :p) but yes, you can tell Word to print only in black . Go to File > Print > Properties and look for the "Black & White" setting under Color somewhere in that dialogue box . Enable that then try printing your document . Good luck . :-)

2004-02-26 08:36:00 | Epson stylus C61. Note spelling (Epson) rather than (Epsom) This printer is capable of being connected to USB or Serial. Which is it connected to by the way? This is unlikely to be a cartridge problem as this printer will accept a cartridge change from a nearly empty to full and back to nearly empty. For this reason I think we look elsewhere. It appears that the computer and or software has problems communicating with the printer at this point in time. I would suspect that one of several things may have happened. 1. Corrupted driver file. 2. Loose or damaged cable. Unlikely the cable is damaged but can happen. If a Serial cable has been plugged back in and we have a bent pin then just replace cable for example. 3. Mis installed printer cartridge. I have seen this one happen a few times. Disclaimer:- I don't use Epson printers as I'm happy with my HP one. This means that I don't know a lot about the Epson brand in general but took the time to look at their Web site for possible solutions.
