218255 2004-02-26 01:52:00 Greetings...When I put an audio CD in my CDR drive, the computer locks up. The hard drive light comes on solid & the computer has to be rebooted. A data CD works fine. I'm running XP. Anyone else had this problem?...Thanks! dcurrie (5312)
218256 2004-02-26 02:03:00 Hey dcurrie,

The audio CD is not scratched in any way? It works fine in a stereo/cd player?

It's possible that whatever program you have assigned to play Music CDs is consuming too much resources and resulting in a very slow and probably non respondant machine. You could also have other programs that are triggered when playing audio CDs like a lookup to the Music Database for names of the song/album etc.

Before inserting the CD hold down the Right Shift Key, then insert the CD, this will disable the Autoplay. Then open up your Music Playing Program that you use and try to play the CD. If it plays fine, or the program doesn't load it would seem it's the program that is at fault and you may need to update it.

Does your WinXP meet the required minimum specs? 128MB of RAM?

218257 2004-02-26 02:20:00 all music cd's?...or just the ones with COPY PROTECTION...which are designed to lock up your system and ruin your day.

if so you will need a ripping program(cdex) to extract the files to your hd to play them, then i would take the cd back to the store and demand a refund as the cd is built outside the standerd.
