when i go into internet. phone line hash is too loud coming from speaker .i have tried click my computer _dial up networking click on ihug-click properties-click on configure turn speaker volume off- click o.k re start up computer back to on line phone hash noise still loud can you help . regards douglas. p.s windows 98 mark 2. |

does your modem have a headphone and microphone port on the back? if so put a pair of headphones in the headphone port and see it the headphones are making a noise. If so find a old pair and cut the plug off and put it in the port. Thats what i did |

go download the correct drivers for your modem. |

You could also try putting m0 in the extra settings section of your modem properties. That will tell the modem to turn the speaker off. |

In XP you can adjust modem volume as follows, Control Panel | System Properties | Hardware | Device Manager | Click + Modem | Right cl Modem | Cl Properties | Modem | Adjust Volume. In Win 98 can you do similar from Device Manager? |
