219095 2004-02-29 18:59:00 Hi all..
My cd player has packed up - time to get a new one.
I need some advice on what to get.
I only want to spend around $250 - but if i decide to get something a bit more that will be worth it (ie, Ipod) i will.

I want something that will play MP3's - as i usually listen to it for over an hour (and i hate listening to same songs over and over again)
And i was originally planning to get a CD player that plys MP3 cds - but i've been looking around, are MD players much better?
And what about Mp3 players - whats the benefit of having them? Beucase they're small? And if i got aflash device - it would be a bout 256mb - whereas a cd holds 700mb.

Any thoughts

219096 2004-02-29 19:47:00 I was looking for a cd player over in Brisbane in December and came across this Myers place. Asked the salesman about the cd player and he was really unhelpful. Asked him if they had one that played mp3s also and he said "Yes this one will play your copyrighted mp3s that you downloaded off the internet." Then he was giving me grief about not paying with cash and paying with travellers cheques. What a moron.

Anyway I'm going to say an MD player, just because they are cool.

219097 2004-02-29 19:58:00 An MP3 CD Player would problably be the best (this is personal opinion though), as you will have flexibility of playing normal CDs too, as well as MP3 CDs you burn yourself (from legit obtained sources of course...). They are also relatively cheap (K-Mart had one for sale for $99).

Otherwise a high-capacity USB Flash Memory Device with inbuilt MP3 player would be quite good too - you can also use it for transporting files around.

219098 2004-02-29 21:18:00 Personally I wouldnt bother with an MD. Its outdated tech now and the transfer rate from PC/Sound device to MD is poor.

You wont be able to afford an Ipod or top of the range player so you may want to look in trade an exchange for a bargain.

219099 2004-02-29 21:24:00 I tried a CD MP3 player and took it back as it was just not up to the job. It was a high end panasonic one too. It just took too long to load the mp3 tracks into memory and to browse through the music folders. I just ended up frustrated with the whole thing. And then theres the hassle of having to burn everything onto cd first.
I would definitely go for an mp3 player over a cd or an md player.
Creative do some good models that are a fair bit cheaper then Ipod. Have a look on ascent.co.nz for more info.

219100 2004-02-29 22:33:00 Transfer rate from computer to md is quite fast.Sony's new md walkman is 64X.U can simply transfer lots of songs within a few seconds yingxuan (3330)
219101 2004-02-29 22:38:00 I have a sony DNE1S mp3 cd player.Its working very well.Very good sound quality.It cost 400 dollars though!!! yingxuan (3330)
219102 2004-02-29 23:17:00 I have an mp3 cd player in my wagon,It does take about 1 minute to read thru the cd before playback but i find that acceptabe for the ease of having 120 odd songs on random play. metla (154)
219103 2004-02-29 23:39:00 Recently, I got a Sony NetMD (MZ-N10). It's great! Fast file transfer and easy to use. Plus it's one cool gadget. Only problem is the software that came with it. SonicStage, it only lets you transfer your music PC-MD three times (very annoying!) I then downloaded the free RealOne player and installed the plug-in for it to be used with the NetMD. It seems alright now (I'm not totally sure). Probably the easiest option is to get a mp3 player instead. But personally I think NetMD is the best! AZREAL (1795)
219104 2004-03-01 00:18:00 I bought a Creative CD/MP3 player about 18 months ago and it was absolute crap, mainly because I had major problems with skipping.

I ended up replacing it with a Sony CD/MP3 player, which I had no problems with at all. I never bothered with browsing through playlists or artists, so I can't comment how good it was in that respect, but there were no delays when playing the disc start-to-finish.

I have since replaced it with a 20Gb iPod, which is very good, but given the price difference between the iPod and the Sony CD/MP3 player, I'm not totally convinced that it was worth the cost. However, in my view, the iPod is far superior to any equivalent Creative product.
