On the 5.30pm news on Coast, I heard that Maori are going to start charging Meridian for storing water in Lake Taupo, as they, the Maori own the lake bed. What utter and complete BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course the Greens and the Pinkos will probably support them in their claim :( |

Despite the fact Maori aren't supposed to "own" land I can just imagine the uproar if I bought a Marae and charged the people access. Firstly, it would be morally wrong. Secondly I'd get a bunch of activists telling me to shove off. It will be interesting to see what their motives are for this and how it pans out. |

"Mighty River Power's view is that its operations don't infringe Tuwharetoa's right to the lake bed and that the iwi has no legal basis to compel it to pay for the storage of water in Lake Taupo." |
