1335472 2013-04-04 08:23:00 What do you think would happen to cable internet in the future that now fibre internet is rolling out? Can fibre still be another avenue to the net with 300 or 1000Mbps in the distant future? Nomad (952)
1335473 2013-04-04 09:05:00 You can buy 1Gbps+ dark fiber right now if you have the need. Cable was never widely rolled out in NZ anyway. Alex B (15479)
1335474 2013-04-04 18:19:00 It'll all depend on the price of provinding the services and the content that is available. THe cheapest option with the best content and / or most convenient delivery options will prevail.

I'd expect cable to die eventually, but it might be a decade before the fate becomes clear.

1335476 2013-04-04 20:43:00 Nice! Lucky bugger... Who'd you go with for an ISP? Plan? Chilling_Silence (9)
1335477 2013-04-04 21:23:00 With a guy in town who had built my infrastructure, he has a deal with UFB and can sell as an ISP
we will have dark fibre to his premesis at 1Gb and will have all our servers virtualised there and our internet will be 50/70

1335479 2013-04-15 22:59:00 Dark Fibre update, have the units installed at both ends, cabinet at our end is done.

Apparently we are the first dark fibre installed in new plymouth, and even the installers were learning on the job (apparently) :D
