2013-04-04 05:43:00 | I am deciding between buying either GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition or Silver Edition Although the youtube vids make it look like super easy to use, i have come across a lot of negative reviews on GoPro Black Edition having issues with firmware or just dying. Has anyone had these experiences? Has anyone used Silver Edition as it seems like thats the one that has less issues but i want to be sure. Also is there a big diff between Black and Silver edition. Any other tips would be appreciated

The White is just the original hero in a new case and with WiFi, the silver has a slightly better camera, and the black is nuts. I personally find the hero3 white to be fine. 1080P 30fps, or 720p 60fps, enough for anything I need. The Silver seems to be basically the same with video but better with still shots. Definitely get a hero3 rather than an earlier hero, the camera is smaller and lighter, which makes everything better esp if you're rough on them (I am very). www.youtube.com That a vid I've used GoPros for - front facing is the Original HeroHD, and the rear facing is the Hero3. gopro.com gopro.com |

2013-04-05 04:52:00 | No advice on the GoPro but I'm certainly jealous. Can't afford one which sucks. Would be really cool for a lot of filming that's just too rough for my DSLR. Ah well, save save save! The black sounds like an overkill though, no point in shooting 4K unless you're doing very professional studio production work. Even then unless you're going to be using a 4K projector 1080p will work fine, even up scaling it a bit. Just for the sake of being different - I looked into getting one of these instead of a GoPro. Not sure how they stack up but from what I recall they have some competing features (I don't think they compete on price though) Mostly being able to do higher frame rates at certain resolutions etc etc. Have a look if you're interested store.contour.com

2013-04-05 07:16:00 | Noticed a lot of cyclists with small cams on their helmets down here seems to make the cars less inclined to do stupid things if the chance of being recorded is there | gary67 (56) | |
2013-04-06 05:29:00 | Thanks Wratterus for the info. I will go for the Silver Edition. Its on Sale currently. An di just saw GoPro came with new firmware couple of days ago so hopefully no freezing and thanks for the tip on class 10 flash cards The only reason i was more inclined towards Black Edition was due to it having the ability to REALLY make Slow Motion stand out at one end of the spectrum - WVGA at 240fps But i watched some Silve Edition slowmos and they are impressive too. And i agree 1140p / 4k Cinema is overkill unless I have 100inch TVs and 25 grand to blow ;P TheErrorguy i checked out the contour and have read some good reviews on it too but since GoPro is on sale and considerably discounted i will just go with it for now. I m into Cycling/mountain biking a lot so just want to create some funky vids - 3rd person perspective vids i reckon are pretty awesome. ;) GoPro makes the Digital Handycam look archaic when it comes to adventure filiming Cheers

2013-04-06 07:06:00 | GoPro has a larger user base + more supported acessories (much like an iPhone - you can find cases, attachments and all sorts of gimmicks as well as really useful tools) The contour has some unique features but unless it's got something you really want/need then I'd probably just go for the GP

2013-04-07 10:06:00 | I borrowed a friends contour plus and was happy. Liked being able to attach to side of ski helmet rather than on top . Less pretentious. Big switch was easy to turn on without removing ski gloves. Used the android app to aim the camera. Needed the extra battery as they only lasted 2 hours but that was in the sub zero temps of a ski field. Microphone was rubbish though when skiing, lots of noise. Will be looking at the contour plus 2 before the ski season starts. Good enough and not as obvious as the gopro. A.

2013-04-07 12:37:00 | Wow USD$199 for the White edition! Very tempting for when the wife and I go to Hawaii and Fiji soon, could be cool especially as its waterproof! | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
