1335113 2013-04-02 17:32:00 We all know that things are getting a bit tense in Korea.

What would you be doing and saying right now if you were South Korea's president.

She is newly elected and comes from a hardline family.

She has been very quiet.

I see the problem as being that North Korea has a large standing army and a very big force of long range artillery fairly close to Seoul where 20 million people.

What would you be doing and saying if you were her?

I'll give my suggestions after a few of your comments.

1335114 2013-04-02 18:34:00 It's problematic, I think I'd be having some serious talks my allies about teaming up to take NK [North Korea] out. I highly doubt they North will have any moralistic problem with civilian casualties in Seoul or around SK in general, I think they'll be quite reckless with their power.

General plan would be to build up a strike team, sneak into their country and try and take out their leadership, or at least put the fight in their country. I don't think the North are as "helpless" as they are made out to be. in fact I wouldn't judge them until the war is over, but I still think that should NK get very serious about a Nuclear strike it wouldn't be too hard for an allied effort to wipe them off the map. The problem there is a *massive* civilian toll I don't think reasoning with them will go anywhere, they have been brewing this for over 50 years and if another Armistice is made they'll only sit back down, make some better weapons/plans and do it again in 2015.

Tense situation, it's not going to end well. I predict NK making the first move with some devastating effect in Seoul/Some SK islands followed by a rather bloody battle with a lot of US coordinated air strikes from the US. They yanks haven't had any fun since they pulled out of Afghanistan, so they'll enjoy getting out of the house to play with their ships/planes/follow granddad's footsteps in Korea.

Either way, can't end well for anyone.

1335116 2013-04-02 19:18:00 If the North are daft enough to use Nuclear, haven't they thought about how close they are to Seoul and the radioactive fallout? I think its just the new Dear Leader flexing his muscles as they all do. Ours would too if he had any. Both sides no they couldn't win if they start something so we are back to the same stalemate we have had for years gary67 (56)
1335117 2013-04-02 19:38:00 I hate to see wars especially killings within own people. Fighting is to be avoided at any costs.

Just look at the innocent /helpless people in the M East - the results of war.

Hate to see the Korea peninsula becoming another M East.

PEACE, PEACE, PEACE. Please.

I agree but so did Chamberlain in 1936.

How much longer can Obama and the western world keep saying we can't or we won't let North Korea or Iran get nuclear weapons.

Neither of them are listening to pleas for talks.
They don't want to.

Five Years ago the West had plenty of time with both of them.
Now we only have a year or so left.

1335119 2013-04-02 20:05:00 You must admit that Kim Jong-Un has a pretty cool western style hairdo.

Reminds me of that guy Dickson with the Samurai swords.

1335121 2013-04-03 00:50:00 I would send little Kim Jong-Un up to his room to play with his train set and Lego. Mind you there could be other in power using him. tut (12033)
1335122 2013-04-03 02:24:00 If I was South Korea's President I would

1 Make sure I had good intelligence and surveillance of the major units of the North Korean army to make sure they were not moving towards the border.

2 Keep an eye out on all major North Korean artillery units and their range from Seoul and other major targets in South Korea.

3 Make sure my army had a good ready reaction plan at the first Northern sign of moving south.

4 Buy more tanks quickly

5 Buy more artillery units quickly

6 Launch a MAJOR propaganda campaign on the North Korean people with leaflets and tv and internet etc. Show them what life is like in South Korea in comparison to what it is like in North Korea. Tell them the South has no plans to occupy the north.

7 Tell the North Korean leaders that they need to stop and reverse all the measures they have taken over the last 6 months immediately or we (the south) will cut off all food aid, all oil aid, and close our factories in that special zone. (we can make those goods ourselves)

Let them starve or let China feed and supply them - they won't like to do that for long.

8 Talk to the Chinese President and tell him that you can no longer tolerate North Korea's actions and threats and ask for China to intervene. Tell China you are happy for North Korea to exist, but it must move towards a more democratic state.

Then - most importantly - move to a the southern most part of South Korea in case the **** hits the fan!

The whole key to this is China

They must not be made to lose face

And they will not like or tolerate a unified Korea under Southern Korea rule with a Southern Korean Army on their border backed by a US army.

Failing all of that offer Kim Jong-un a Gangnam style recording contract and a free Galaxy 4 notepad with unlimited broadband.
