1335768 2013-04-08 00:32:00 You're not the Duke of Edinburgh. A little finding out about the culture of a different country before setting off in all your glory is not really a hard thing to do.

I do wonder the Duke's opinion on the matter.

I'm sure he'd welcome bare tits, too.

He seems to have kept his opinions to himself whilst visiting here. But after hours, away from the fawning hoi polio I'd think it would be a different story. Her Maj has the reputation of being an adept and cutting mimic as well. Interesting to be a fly on the wall while the two of them discussed their day ...

Gotta wonder about his private comments & jokes over that

But should 'official welcomes' reflect the true cultural & background of most kiwi's . Most are from UK immigrants (generations back)
so it should be morris dances & soccer hooliganism

Save the Maori welcome's for the Marae , where they are 100% appropriate.
And lets stop doing the Haka every 5 minutes (it seems) .
The haka has become something done by drunk white boys at the drop of a hat, not something meaningful or of significance.

1335771 2013-04-08 05:11:00 I don't condone taking the mickey of another culture, in no situation it is appropriate. However people are entitled to their opinions, therefore so she is.

I hope that if our Prime Minister goes to visit Holland they don't take him into the red zone to smoke a spiff and look at a strip show without first asking if it is ok with him. Same should apply for people coming here I guess.

I'd love that, as I am sure John Key would, too. Hell, maybe even Aunty Helen would enjoy it!

1335773 2013-04-08 06:07:00 Wonder if the lady was advised of what was going to be on her welcome to NZ itinerary.

Attending conferences in Auckland in years gone by our host always asked if anyone objected to being treated to a strip club evening.

Both male and female attendees' enjoyed the evenings' out.

Lurking.

The man is a legend, I'd gladly have him as King.
Shame his son and grandsons don't measure up to his awesomeness.

1335775 2013-04-08 06:20:00 We were forced to learn Maori and the Bible back in Primary. Two things I hate and two things I never use. I distinctly remember the maori teacher (however nice and friendly she was) saying that the Maori culture was OUR culture. Although I didn't say anything at the time (I was only 9) even then I knew that was a load of ****.

My culture is me, a white guy, doing white guy things.you only have your parents to blame for sending you to a church based school.

It wasn't a church based school. It was a normal primary school. It seemed back then they had a thing called "Bible In Schools" where someone would come in once a week and talk about all that crap. Dunno if they have that now.

Just very surprised as my oldest is the same age as you.. We have a couple of teachers on the forum, maybe their can shed some light on it plod (107)
