In an opinion piece in a Danish newspaper, right wing politician Marie Krarup says she was shocked to be welcomed by a dancing "half naked man.'' She says on arrival at the Devonport Naval Base, her group was greeted by a man shouting and screaming in Maori, and poking his tongue out. Ms Krarup goes on to say she felt like an idiot giving a hongi and the waiata performed by naval personnel sounded like a Danish children's song about a happy ladybird. I wish more people over here were like her. A big thumbs up:thumbs: |

I am pretty sure it has been made illegal in Denmark these days. And regardless, this isn't no where as savage nor barbaric as our savages beating their kids to death. Killing whale children vs killing human children... Hum, though one. |

| 1335757 | 2013-04-07 21:37:00 | I'm fine with expressions of culture and whatnot, but only in certain contexts. I think welcoming every person onto a marae with an aggressive war dance is fine. But welcoming people say, at an airport I think is a reason to immediately turn around and head straight to departures. Not only is it inappropriate it seriously cheapens their culture. It'd be the same as welcoming every korean to the country with gangnam style, american with freebird or australian with AC/DC or a boomerang to the face. THAT WAS A BAD JOKE. |
