1335918 2013-04-09 01:22:00 I note Tippany this morning sporting his usual huge Maori fishing hook dangling from his neck, does that relate to how much he has managed to suck out, or does it represent something else?

Do you mean Stephen Gerard O'Regan? HERE (www.google.co.nz .12.0.0.0.0.866.5098.3-8j3j0j1.12.0...0.0...1c.1.8.hp.KlPKU9NGiIc&psj=1&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.44990110,d.cGE&fp=bad0c6ea3ec89d21&biw=1024&bih=596)

I suppose we could do what most on here do, just let it roll along and hope they the will not take more than we produce.

1335922 2013-04-09 02:42:00 Snip <Maybe you can ease my pain by telling me a success story where the Rank & File Maori have benefited from the Billions in Waitangi Settlements already distributed? > Snip

Sir Mark Solomon of Ngai Tapu comes to mind .

In 1995, he was elected to Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu as the local representative for Te Rūnanga o Kaikōura, a position which he continues to hold . [2][3] Three years later, he was elected chairman of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu . [6] The same year, Ngāi Tahu settled its Treaty of Waitangi claim with the Crown for $170 million . By the end of 2012, under Solomon's chairmanship, the iwi's commercial assets had appreciated to an estimated $809 million . [6]

Forget Tuku Underpants . He's nowhere in the same league .

Achievements of Ngai Tahu? Go no further:

1335923 2013-04-09 03:00:00 Maori own a lakebed. Ownership of the lakebed exists because Maori culture saw value in the lakebed.

Without all that water above it, it is no longer a lakebed (it would become a dry, cracked crater with some goethermal activity), so Maori need that water in orgder to preserve their lakebed.

So now the equation is flipped around. Maori are using all that water to preserve their lakebed as a lakebed.

Further to that, the lakebed is permeable, and is consuming that water, denying the downstream generators of some of the volume of water.

Now who should pay whom?

Perhaps we can all put our hands back into our own pockets and call it square.

Sorry, my typo. I meant Ngai Tahu , not "Tapu".

Ahhh yes Wal, but the commercial wealth is one thing, how much the Rank and File see of it is quite another .

Solid Energy is a classic example of a business being estimated to be worth Billions on one hand and broke owing millions on the other .

So, can you tell me of any Hospitals, or other services to all Maori that these handouts have financed one way or another?

And that link you posted got me to the Website OK but the PDF wouldn’t open for some reason .

All the info you want is contained therein but takes a little looking for - next any annual return or prospectus. I wasn't born yesterday, BM, and I'm not about to analyse it for you. :p

So what's different to the shareholders of any other co-operative?

Your point? Many of the sound tourist-based holdings Ngai Tahu have would have buyers lined up were they ever to put them on the market. Not so with Solid Energy. Its assets are extensive, but there's no market for most of them.

See my first point ("All the info you want" &c). But quickly going through the salient points, they've made $25m of grants toward education, varying amounts to tertiary studies and other educational purposes. 400 households were supported during the Christchurch earthquakes, and they've made grants for further relief. A savings scheme has been introduced with contributions by under 16yo subsidised 4:1, and 1:1 for adults.

Without a full disclosure and/or audit we don't know. Not that we have to.

All in all, I think they've acted with prudence and with integrity.

:)

Re "Many of the sound tourist-based holdings Ngai Tahu have would have buyers lined up ", I forgot about Shotover Jet!

Wal just tell us about the payout to the shareholders and how much the Rank & File got.

Remembering they are Supposed to be Shareholders.

As for coming down in the last shower, I think you might have, because I have no interest in lying about anything and here is a Screenshot to prove I still can’t read the PDF file.
