 yuss :D

My fav is still Bill and Ben Island though!

1335178 2013-04-02 21:38:00 I still call Mt Egmont Mt Egmont

I've never had an issue with Mt Taranaki. It "sits" far easier than Egmont does.

How about "A bit on the side islands"

1335181 2013-04-02 22:10:00 Gobe1, I was influenced to no small extent by the patriarch of a third generation farming family who used to live on Franklin Rd. He would often opine "Egmont" was a "bloody stupid" name. But as you say, to each his own. WalOne (4202)
1335182 2013-04-02 22:34:00 I am all in favour of a actual name for each of the islands (Its well overdue)
But I see no reason for them to be Maori or unpronounceable.

1335183 2013-04-02 23:02:00 Whilst in Australia recently I referred to Oz as “West Island” and that wasn’t met with widespread approval either. :D B.M. (505)
1335184 2013-04-02 23:16:00 Sorry Gary,
Can't call them Bill and Ben - Bill's got to be Wiremu these days. Dunno about Ben - I guess there'll be an equivalent.

Ah but they still live in flowerpots with a little weed :banana

1335185 2013-04-03 00:05:00 I would prefer the North and South Island names to remain. Them long Maori names are hard for me to pronounce. Bobh (5192)

At least you CAN pronounce it - only a little 'hard' to do so, where as, I can't pronounce it at all!

After living in this land for 20+ years, I can't even count up to 3 (yes, it's THREE) in Maori. Maybe, I don't really bother to learn! Or, maybe there isn't any incentive to learn that language! :D
